  1. I can finally make my typeface variable with the Glyphs 4 preview!

  2. What would be the correct way to handle discretionary ligatures inside Glyphs (especially for arrow symbols)?

I'm currently doing it like this, while also having the original arrow symbols inside the typeface.

  7. Expectation: Glyphs app exports ufo files effortlessly, I can open any ufo file with Glyphs.
Reality: Glyphs app crashes when I try to export ufo files, can't open ufo files correctly either :/

  10. I really want to do more type design, but there's one feature lacking in Glyphs preventing me from actually doing it.

Currently, Glyphs doesn't have a proper rounded-corner option like in most vector editing software. I've managed to find a workaround for now, but it's kinda wonky.
It also stops me from experimenting with different weights, or even a variable typeface.

So, I'm still hoping they're adding it soon!

  15. Trying to get the #din91379 sequences with horn to shape correctly in my Sudo fonts ... “S horncomb macroncomb” is an especially difficult combination. It shapes correctly in harfbuzz (FontGoggles, top) but not in CoreText (TextEdit, bottom). I wonder if that's a limitation in #GlyphsApp’s generated mark feature or a bug in CoreText. That one of the font is monospaced also doesn’t make it easier ;)

  24. New in your #GlyphsApp Plugin Manager: Favourites, a quick and easy way to access your favourite Glyphs files.
Also shows how long you spent on each file.
Just drag any Glyphs file from Finder into the Favourites window to add it to the list.

  32. I’ve updated the „Scrawl" plugin that lets you scribble, TypeCooker-style, inside #GlyphsApp. New features are:
    - The image is initially transparent, which plays nicer with dark mode and custom canvas colours
    - Your drawing is also shown in the preview pane if the glyph doesn't contain outlines
    - The initial image is larger so you can draw farther outside the glyph metrics

If you have Scrawl installed, it will update automatically. If you haven’t, go look for it in the Glyphs plugin manager :)

  36. My projects are never simple. Now I have to do backwards #TrueType hinting, i.e. make it look all wrong in #GlyphsApp so it will look correct in the exported font.
(This is triggered by setting the units per em to a different value in the export settings. Makes the TT hinting blow up.)

  40. Another small improvement to my #GlyphsApp nib simulator:
    * Only refresh if the layer is actually different
    * Also draw the nib trace when in the background layer
    * Don't draw the nib trace in preview mode
