  1. @ScienceScholar

This is really interesting, especially that there a sex difference.

I'd like to write something about why, but am unable to do so at present.

Here's a old blog post I wrote on the topic of cysteine in birds and humans:

  5. A new study by Hacham et al. suggests a novel #regulatory feedback loop involving #glutathione, #methionine, & #cysteine, providing insight into the interrelationship between #plant growth, stress response, and #nutritional value.

  6. The results of a recent human clinical trial clearly demonstrate the ability of a patented molecule to enhance glutathione levels in the bodies of older people – quite substantially. Glutathione is the body’s master antioxidant.

This molecule has already been the subject of over 50 peer reviewed studies over several decades.

A Better Way To Raise Glutathione? Human Trial | Dr Nayan Patel interview with Modern Healthspan

Apparently a glutathione–cyclodextrin nanoparticle complex (GSH-CD) can not only get through the skin, it is readily taken up by immune cells. The product is now on sale direct to consumer from Auro Wellness. It's expensive, but if one bottle is equivalent in dose to an IV glutathione infusion, then it is competitive in cost (in the US).

I'm tagging this for the chronic illness community as an FYI. I have not used it; I may not try it since cyclodextrin can be corn-derived and I'm allergic to corn. Dr Patel notes rash can develop if dose is too high; I'm wondering if chronically ill people might be more sensitive.

Small human study on healthy participants that is discussed in video:

I came across a study* by way of a video** on glutathione that reported increased GSH enhanced mycobacterium clearance. Given that the treatment reduced malondialdehyde - how does this fit in with the aldehyde hypothesis?

    Q. Do the #Bacteria involved in meat going off produce Cysteine?

Expanded: Read maybe 6 weeks ago on Mastodon about how hunter gatherers would eat putrifying meat. And I'm wondering if that changed the ratios of proteins that they were eating.

Why might that be of interest?
R.V. Sekhar has had 2 articles published about increasing #Cysteine to boost #Glutathione levels.
