Since the #GlobalOceanTreaty passed the threshold of 60 countries a lot more have ratified. The current number is 75! 🌊
But on the 1st of October the state of Palestine ratified the High Seas Treaty or #BBNJ, and I think that one ratification is particularly important to note.

"With 60 ratifications, the treaty will now enter into force, ushering in a new era of stewardship for the High Seas. Together, we are protecting marine biodiversity, advancing climate action, and ensuring that our ocean remains healthy and resilient for generations to come.
"This is not just a victory for the ocean, it is a victory for our planet and all who depend on it. Healthy oceans, healthy planet," the Palauan leader says.

The Global Ocean Treaty and the High Seas Alliance in TIME Magazine! 🌊🐙
"It’s hard to overstate the significance of a new international treaty at this current political moment. There has never been a climate diplomacy effort like this for the ocean—it is obviously a big win for the ocean, but also for multilateralism."
"The effort to establish high seas protections will outlast any single administration, and global public support will be critical to these efforts."

Sorry I missed this update from Thursday last week, but Congo 🇨🇬 is the latest country to ratify the Global Ocean Treaty (aka #BBNJ) bringing the total number of ratifications to 52 out of 60 needed for the treaty to come into effect.
We are so close to acquiring a whole new legal framework for international ocean protection! 🌊🐙🐳

☎️️ Ring ring! The ocean called. It wants its biodiversity back
World leaders are having a nice time in Nice, where they’re supposed to be ratifying a treaty that would protect our oceans.
We’re asking them to answer the call, and meet the deadline they set themselves. We need at least 60 countries to make the treaty law to make it legally binding.
If you want to help, sign the petition to call on governments to seas the moment and create ocean sanctuaries.
