It's old news now, but back on May 9 I participated in global big day, and really tried to put in an effort for the first time.
I ended up putting in about 14 hours of birding in many different habitats. My tally for the day was 92 species, which is by far the highest number of species I have seen in a single day.
One of my favourite encounters from the day was this Cooper's Hawk at White Lake, which was dining on what I suspect is a Brewer's Blackbird.

In the actual #GlobalBigDay yesterday I was not much lucky, but today have seen this beauty in #Genova .
Unlike the ubiquitous Kramer parrots here, these ones are more rare and harder to find because of their far more modest behaviour. -

As my time zone shuts the book on this #GlobalBigDay, I wanted to post a few early favorites from my photos. My mom and I walked around 3.5 miles today and counted 125 birds of 28 species.
Here are four of ‘em! Two kinds of nuthatch, a noisy corvid, and the absolute star of the day: this particular, sadly lovelorn Lewis’s Woodpecker. 💚❤️🌲:sapsucker:

Had a rare visitor to my feeder just in time for the Cornell Lab's #GlobalBigDay today! It's been years since I've seen a Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Lots of activity from the usual suspects, including the Bluebird mom who would just like to eat in peace without the paparazzi please??? She's so busy raising her babies and competing with the Grackles right now. I felt bad for bothering her.

On the eve of #GlobalBigDay I got sucked into reading something on the bird site only to be recommended a post by an eBird reviewer who was essentially putting down (using the words f and hate) all the amateur birders and their amateur way of birding. This is why I need to stick with Mastodon, and also why I am posting to eBird less frequently. Birding and enjoying nature is the one place where I would rather not feel judged and hated on.
