  1. #GlobalBigDay today in Nicaragua, counting and bird lists are still being made but this handsome yellow-naped Amazon is just too pretty not to shade.

  5. In the actual yesterday I was not much lucky, but today have seen this beauty in .
Unlike the ubiquitous Kramer parrots here, these ones are more rare and harder to find because of their far more modest behaviour.

  7. Oh my GLOB, Cornell Ornithology’s Birds of the World (their site with huge fully cited detailed entries on different bird species) is free today to celebrate #GlobalBigDay! I finally get to see a helpful précis of everything science knows about the Lewis’s Woodpecker, for instance! Maybe the details about bald eagle courtship I need are in here?! This is…definitely helping me get out of my house and count birds! 😅

  18. Scarlet Tanager ( Piranga olivacea) in Central Park, NY's The Ramble woodland area at yesterday's World Migratory Bird Day. It's worth mentioning that Scarlet and Summer Tanagers are not in the Tanager family (Thraupidae), but in the Cardinal group (Cardinalidae). #GlobalBigDay

  22. As my time zone shuts the book on this #GlobalBigDay, I wanted to post a few early favorites from my photos. My mom and I walked around 3.5 miles today and counted 125 birds of 28 species.

Here are four of ‘em! Two kinds of nuthatch, a noisy corvid, and the absolute star of the day: this particular, sadly lovelorn Lewis’s Woodpecker. 💚❤️🌲:sapsucker:

  26. Had a rare visitor to my feeder just in time for the Cornell Lab's #GlobalBigDay today! It's been years since I've seen a Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Lots of activity from the usual suspects, including the Bluebird mom who would just like to eat in peace without the paparazzi please??? She's so busy raising her babies and competing with the Grackles right now. I felt bad for bothering her.
