#Glasshole (n) A derogatory term used for people (mostly men) using smart glasses with camera and microphone to record and harass other people (mostly women) in public. "So you are another glasshole?" Can also be used as a verb: "Are you glassholing me, you pervert?"

@neil When the exact same thing happened with the Google Glasses years ago, we established the derogatory term #Glasshole for these people. Time to bring it back.

Back in the day, we called someone using such a thing a #Glasshole

A local optician has adverts in its window for Meta’s surveillance Ray-Bans, with frames (sans cameras) on display. So I now know what to look out for - two small cameras in the corners of the frame, in line with the arms. #glasshole

I just found this cool app for being alerted when some #glasshole is wearing those spy glasses around you. And they release an apk so you don't have to getting from the play store. It would be dope if they got it on to #fdroid

Absolutely!

The thing that will kill creep glasses this time is the same thing that killed them last time (Google Glass, remember those?) - public opprobrium.

If you see anyone wearing them, assume they are recording (because they can hide that fact if they want) -- and then, more importantly, ensure everyone around *knows* the creep is recording them without permission.

Do this loudly and visibly. Stop, point directly at them, and yell "HEY, GLASSHOLE - STOP RECORDING PEOPLE WITHOUT PERMISSION" and continue by telling everyone "Hey, that guy <points> is recording people"...

Humiliate them, publicly. Shame them. Ostracize them. If someone you know is using them, go hard, and make sure everyone else you know knows they are doing it.

That is what will make them stop. Make the personal cost to their dignity, social acceptance, embarassment, everything total out more than the creepy voyeurism is worth, and they will drop it like a hot potato.

Google Glass failed as a consumer product for many reasons, but one of them was how socially unacceptable we made use of them in public.

@RickJ #Videotelefonie via #Smartwatch wäre schon cool... aber ich bezweifle, dass sich das praktikabel umsetzen lässt.

Bei den #AirPods fällt es mir auch schwer, mir einen Usecase vorzustellen... für #Blinde und #Sehbehinderte wäre es vermutlich eine super Sache, sich die Umgebung auditiv beschreiben lassen zu können. Bis auf sehr bescheidene Akkulaufzeiten könnte da vielleicht sogar realisierbar sein, zumindest wenn die #KI auf dem Phone läuft.

Trotzdem sehe ich Akzeptanzprobleme wenn Menschen im Alltag mit (mutmaßlich nach vorne ausgerichteten) Kameras in den Ohren rumlaufen. Ich bin aber schon sehr gespannt, welches kreative Schimpfwort sich das Internet als #Apple-Äquivalent zu #Glasshole ausdenkt... 😀
