I had a chance to try Google Glass for the first time at the very first VloggerFair that I produced here in Seattle and I was enthralled. But people didn't accept the Google Glass. I would have easily been a glasshole.

In case you thought it was just a few creeps who wanted to make their Facebook / Meta "Pervert Glasses" record video without the tell-tale indicator light showing, here is a product mass-produced in a Chinese factory that enables it:

Lots of "Excellent product, fits perfectly the Rayban Meta Wayfare, hides the indicator LED well"-type comments. And you get two of them for $8 Canadian, including shipping.
Someone had to design this product and make the plastic-injection moulds to mass-produce this. That's expensive. They expect to sell many thousands of them.
So you are, in case you were questioning it, fully justified in assuming anyone wearing Pervert Glasses is, indeed, a pervert and that they are recording you without your consent. The traditional response to this is to non-consensually introduce their nose to your fist, rip the glasses from their face, and stomp them flat.
And if you see someone do so, NO YOU DIDN'T.

Never met anyone who was being a #glasshole, but I sure do often get infuriated encountering anyone wearing earpods, regardless if it's in traffic, at work, or in a bar (could be all three at once): there are many good reasons why people should not be shielding themselves auditively in public, and only a few that they shouldn't be apologetic about.

CLARIFICATION: I personally still prefer the term glasshole as it puts the blame for bad behaviour on the person wearing it. I do see the potential for these glasses to be used as assistive technologies, but that is unfortunately not the way they are perceived. Maybe that will change.

Der Vorschlag des Journalisten, die Brillen nur Aufnahmen für Meta / KI machen zu lassen und nicht für den User selbst klingt auch mehr nach einem unglücklichen Rechtfertigungsversuch als dass es eine wirkliche Lösung darstellen würde.
Der einzig sinnvolle Vorschlag, der der Journalist aber nur ungewollt zu machen scheint: Die Problemträger entsprechend benennen. GLASSHOLE!!

If, as reports suggest, Facebook [1] is going to release a version of their creep glasses that are (a) always recording, and which (b) do *not* have a tell-tale indicator that they are recording, then I would like to inform you that you have permission to punch anyone wearing them square in the face repeatedly until the glasses fall off their head. You may then stomp them. [2]
I don't make the rules.
Remember: the way we make these creepy stalkerware things go away is the same way we made Google Glass go away - social opprobrium. "Glasshole" worked. Insult, criticize, point and laugh at, loudly announce "this creep is recording you without permission", do it all. Ensure that no one wants to take the chance of leaving their house with these things on their face. Make it a career/social-life-limiting-move to wear them.
[1] Don't call them "Meta". Don't help them rebrand away from a name they wanted to drop because it got too toxic. Similarly don't call Google "Alphabet".
[2] The glasses. Or maybe the wearer, your choice.

I took a wrong turn while doomscrolling too late at night and stumbled into the subreddit for those idiotic Meta Rayban glasses. And I have to say, those people are completely delusional.
My takeaway: If you see people wearing those glasses, assume the recording LED has been tampered with. Assume you're being recorded as soon as you see someone wearing them.

Just met my first #glasshole in person
Asked him why he was wearing them
He said he'd "the feeling he needs them" because you can hear music with them ¯\(°_o)/¯
And saw no problem with #privacy at all - from what he'd said he didn't know the concept...
Got a bit pissed that I asked him, bc he saw it as "his decision" & "freedom" to wear a piece of surveillance tech in his face
How do you guys act in situations like this? Or am I too 2010ish ;)?

Ich hab schon ne Weile erfolglos drüber nachgedacht, wie man die Ächtung solcher Leute gut verpacken kann. -
Die erste Begegnung mit einem Mann mit Ray-Ban-Meta-Brille hatte ich mir anders vorgestellt.
Es war beim Decathlon an der Kasse. Ein Mitarbeiter hatte diese Brille auf. Ich habe ihn darauf angesprochen. Da sie aber scheinbar nicht an war (es leuchtete keine Lampe), kann ich ja auch rechtlich nichts machen.
Auf die Frage, wofür er die Brille denn braucht, wich er aus: "Zum Musikhören." - "Für Private Zwecke."
Dann fing er an, im Gesicht zu zittern.
Ich bat ihn, seinen Vorgesetzten zu sprechen.Der meinte auch, er könne seinen Mitarbeitern nicht vorschreiben, was sie für Brillen tragen.
Aus meiner Sicht gehört so etwas verboten.

Als damals™ die Google Glasses für eine Diskussion über den Verlust der Privatsphäre durch Kamerabrillen sorgte, gab es im Englischen schnell eine abwertende Bezeichnung. #Glasshole. Ich habe mich damals geärgert das es kein gutes Äquivalent auf deutsch gab. Aber jetzt, mit der erneuerten Diskussion über die Meta/Facebook/Rayban Brillen und was damit gemacht wird, gibt es dieses Wort.
Benutzt es oft, macht es zum Unwort des Jahres. Ich zähle auf euch :)
