If the #GlassCliff concept is new to you, here's a handy reference. See in particular the political section.
Canada knows it well from the Kim Campbell situation, handed a PM role as her predecessor Mulroney ran from the flames.

I'm pretty sure the glass ceiling and the broken rung on the ladder metaphors refer to the same thing: women, black people, and other members of marginalized groups don't get the same opportunities to grow their skills, prove their worth, or advance. The only way to fix this is, obviously, to ensure that those opportunities exist and that they aren't being looked over in favor of less qualified white males. But this is old news.
As a managerial scientist, the metaphor that interests me lately is something called the "#GlassCliff": when members of marginalized groups, especially women of color, actually do get into positions of power, they find themselves under a microscope, surrounded by people waiting to jump on them at the first sign of trouble. When something inevitably goes bad, you hear the chorus of people claiming that they weren't qualified, that they were a "diversity hire", as if this couldn't have happened under a white male.

The mayor of Tallinn, Estonia has been removed by the city council in a motion of no confidence. The change seems to reflect more a political change — specifically, members of the mayor's party, the People's Central Party, incrementally leaving the party[1] while staying in the city council — than specific malfeasance of the mayor. (If you're only familiar with the American way of removals, which clothe removal of officers in language of crimes and misdemeanours, the parliamentary systems' 'no confidence' is expressly distinct from any punitive proceedings, and 'we don't have confidence that official XXX will execute the policy that we prefer' is widely considered an acceptable reason for removal.)
Due to these same political changes, the new mayor, Madle Lippus, is from the Social Democratic Party. As a reflection of the precariousness of her position, the exact minimum needed, 40 councilpeople out of 79, voted for her. It's probably, from what I can surmise, not an example of #GlassCliff as much as the Estonia's Social Democrats being more gender inclusive than the People's Central Party, though.
Coming back to the American political example, within a couple of USHR resignations, replacement of its speaker with a Democrat might become similarly politically possible.

#Mulroney was also guilty of the classic #GlassCliff treatment of Kim Campbell.
He simultaneously set a prominent woman up for abject failure, and robbed anyone of the opportunity to be the celebrated and successful first female prime minister of Canada in the future.
He gave misogynists a generation worth of opportunities to say "well we tried a woman once, and we saw how that worked out."

@samlitzinger good riddance, but it sucks to see her crooked boss get to benefit from the old #GlassCliff. 🙄

The service is being throttled and metered by the hosting company... I'm certain of that.
It's the only thing that actually makes sense.
The company is going under shortly... tax write off for Elon for years to come and the new CEO is about to find out what the #GlassCliff is all about... exactly like some of us have been saying all along.

Why did she take the job? Why would anyone take the #TwitterCEO job? You just know he's going to keep tweeting the way he does and soon those tweets will be there to — intentionally or unintentionally — undermine whatever his CEO says or does. It's even worse than the usual #GlassCliff women in leadership get.
This one possibly baffles me even more than the folks with established careers and reputations who accepted positions in DJT's government or legal teams.

Well, #Twitter has a new CEO, and since it's a woman and the company is failing, everyone is bringing up the #glasscliff theory as a forward excuse.
Sadly, there's nothing, a woman can do to prevent falling victim to this patriarchic trap, like, let's say, turning down the job offer. So not wishing Twitter the best of luck henceforth is now a case of gender discrimination. Thank you #feminism. 🤦♂️

Elon Musk sparred with new CEO Linda Yaccarino in on-stage interview: 3 takeaways from the exchange | AP News https://apnews.com/article/musk-twitter-ceo-yaccarino-interview-9327856331614e64163f50900c831bf4 it all seems like a show staged to impress advertisers. The twitter CEO news makes me think of this classic Onion headline from 2008. #GlassCliff
-
True to the #GlassCliff trope, #Twitter now has a female CEO. Women & their careers are expendable, so they routinely get appointed to lead enterprises that are circling the drain while the men are executing exit strategies. #Business as usual.
-
What Else Musk is doing by stepping away as CEO and employing a women is likely a sign that Twitter is in real trouble and he needs, well, a fall...girl.
This has been seen before and is termed the #GlassCliff where companies who are in crisis employ a woman to blame when she eventually can't fix all the issues and the company inevitably fails.
If so, Twitter will likely be filing for bankruptcy within a couple of years.
There's no way Musk will be doing this because it's a positive thing.

2008年,她就正式加入Meta(当时的Facebook),如今已在里面任职14年。
The term "glass cliff" describes a failing company which suddenly appoints a woman as CEO in place of a man. When the company fails, the woman is blamed instead of the man.
That is what poor crybaby Elon is doing right now.

Study finds women are only 33% of US college presidents. Women presidents: 7 points less likely than men to say they were given a realistic picture of the institution's challenges; women of color: 17 pts less likely. This sets women up for a #GlassCliff https://www.diverseeducation.com/reports-data/article/15383134/minorities-and-women-make-gains-but-the-american-college-presidency-is-still-largely-white-and-male

“…the phenomenon known in some circles as the glass cliff, wherein women, specifically those from underrepresented communities, are promoted into leadership positions during times of crisis and given a sometimes impossible task of fixing a broken culture.”

Black women may be even more likely to encounter a #GlassCliff. Appointed to positions to clean up messes they didn't create & then not supported. There's "tremendous pressure to get it right & perform perfection at all times no matter what."
