New research in #Geology suggests an unexpected mechanism could have caused a global #glaciation to last for 56 million years, revealing the inner workings of the #carbonCycle -
A thought-provoking and wide-ranging talk yesterday by Andy Wickert, University of Minnesota.
His group has tracked changes in drainage patterns during the final deglaciation of Minnesota (~11 thousand years ago) to changes in erosion rates since the advent of mechanical agriculture.

Scientists are coming closer to understanding the period of time during Marinoan period. This was about 720 million years ago and the earth is called "snowball earth' during this time. The period lasted somewhere between 4 and 15 million years ago. Scientists have been trying to narrow the time period down. Now by using isotopic dating of ash layers this has been narrowed to it lasting 4 million years.
