  3. All kinds of weather happening in the #PNW. We have floods, wind, snow - something for everyone.

    NOAA has posted a high wind watch for most of the urban Puget Sound area including Seattle. Possible gusts to 65mph Tuesday night into Wednesday. If you live in this area it would be a good idea to prepare for a power outage.

  9. NOAA has posted an #IceStormWarning. It is the dark purple area on the map. At the time of my post this is only in SE Missouri. See the screenshot text below.

    Note that other areas are also forecast to have freezing rain but not as much as in the ice storm warning area.

  11. NOAA has added some new GIS layers related to floods. The symbols on this map are streamgages. Open the map, click a symbol, scroll down and follow the first link. You will see a forecast for water level at that gage.
    Purple = Major flood
    Red = Moderate flood

  14. Due to lack of rain it is still wildfire season in several eastern states. When this map opens it is centered on the #QuakerRunFire in Virginia. Pink area will always show latest perimeter data hosted on NIFC GIS server. Click pink area to see attribute data including acres burned. #VAfire #VAwx

    Triangles and squares are heat detections by MODIS and VIIRS satellites. That data is *not* real time and locations are only approximate. This data updates several times per day.

  17. Marker on map is approximate location of #hazmat incident at railyard near #NorthPlatte |#Nebraska.

    News reporting there was an explosion and a railcar carrying the hazardous chemical perchloric acid is on fire. Nearby weather station shows 8mph wind from the south.

    There is an evacuation area around the incident.

  22. August 5 morning. #SourdoughFire, Diablo WA.
    Infrared flight last night 8:17pm. IR analyst determined 1,176 acres burned. However, analyst was not able to fully review area shaded white on the map.

    Highway 20 (North Cascades Highway) is currently closed.

    Fire is now in North Cascades National Park. This area has not burned in well over 20 years.

    Infrared flight last night 12:07am. IR analyst determined Niarada burned 12,421 acres, MillPocket burned 1,879 acres.
