@royaards How do you exactly “reduce global inequality” when #Gini index in countries like #Russia or #China is 0.33-0.36 while in #Finland it’s 0.274? Because these countries strongly believe it’s their economic model that is more efficient and are promoting it persistently elsewhere, including Asia and Africa. The largest wave of migration to EU after 2015 was triggered by Russian military intervention in #Syria and they never really hidden force civilians out of the country to use that wave as a weapon against EU. So how do you exactly “reduce global inequality under such conditions?

You’ve probably heard that #inequality is growing, but where is the evidence?

It’s hard to find the underlying data used to calculate the #Gini index*, but one example is USA Household Income Dispersion: 1967 to 2023 (www2.census.gov/programs-surveys/demo/tables/p60/282/tableA4b.xlsx)

Two graphs show why America is not only the self-acclaimed Land of the Free but also the Land of the Poor.

Among OECD countries:
- the USA has the lowest unemployment benefits
- the USA has the second-highest Gini coefficient.

But this is what Americans want:
They voted to give billionaires more tax breaks.

A #Euskadi, hi ha comarques on més del 10% dels treballadors estan a una #cooperativa.

A #Debagoiena, seu de #Mondragón, arriba a 1 de cada 2 treballadors.

Comparant aquestes dades amb l'índex de #Gini, m'atrevesc a dir que la desigualtat seria molt menor allà on hi ha més #feina en #cooperatives.

El #cooperativisme és una eina molt potent de les polítiques d'igualtat.

I recently had a conversation about this with an East European co-worker.

She argued that she does not understand why immigrants want to go to East Europe when Germany is a much wealthier country.

I disagreed. Sure, Germans can afford the latest iPhone more easily, but when I’m in Romania, Poland, or Croatia, I see high-speed internet, a working infrastructure, and people owning 1-2 properties.

These are things people in Germany dream of. That’s the actual wealth.

“Germany is a rich country.” Germany is not even presented in the top 25 in terms of median wealth.

Recently, I started to disagree with this commonly used phrase. Germany is not rich. Some individuals are (which is reflected in the average wealth that pushes us up in the statistics). German people don’t own much.

And to be honest, you can see that. Everything is broken and it just getting started with the lack of funding.

Canada's Gini Coefficient (higher==more inequality) declined slightly from 0.37 in 1971 to 0.33 in 2017; the U.S. Gini rose from 0.35 in 1974 to 0.42 in 2019. But neither is anything to boast about. 🙁
