Anyway, back to the tomato mines.

Making salsa all night, and now I'm going to make some green tomato mince meat, because it did frost last night, and there are way too fucking many tomatoes still around that need to be picked ASAP before they get mushy.

I'm somewhat sad I did not follow through and grab the strange black icicle volunteer growing in the compost yesterday before the frost. I hope it manages to produce seeds anyway.

Making salsa.
Today it threatens to frost at last, so I picked almost every tomato that was left on vines and brought some of my pepper plants inside for the winter.

I'll be good goddamned if I try to start another Carolina Reaper pepper plant when I can just overwinter it. FIFTEEN SEEDS to get one plant! This motherfucker is like my baby now.

Oh yeah, those aren't in the salsa. In fact, the salsa only has some bell peppers, garden salsa peppers, and jalapeños. Though for mine I'm adding some chopped up purple masquerade at the last minute before I seal up the jars.

This year I added a step, and when @GPJohnston described how he goes about making his salsa, I realized that I should have been doing this all along. I pureed 1 L of roasted tomatoes as a base instead of just relying on the chopped tomatoes in the mix.

Anyhoo, back at it.
