My Gibson J-150 is a finicky guitar with regards to humidity and temperature but damn I *do* love to spend a few minutes with it strumming some aimless open chords.

Photo a Day: Album Cover

Quarantine Tunes Volume 8 is going to need an album cover. Coincidently, I need a photo for today’s photo a day challenge thingie.

I have a guitar project for this weekend. I need to do some research first.

There is some nasty fret buzz around the second fret on my ES-335. Here’s hoping it’s something I can fix myself. I certainly hope so considering I had a professional work on it just a few months ago.

#gibsunday with a real burst. This is a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard, named “Louis.” Easily the lightest LP I’ve ever played. Thx to blackmagicguitars for letting me experience it 🤘

I left the driveway for work at 7:40 or so. I drove until about 8:10 and then something came up at home and I had to turn around and head back. It took less than 10 minutes to get home.

And now you understand how Boston traffic works once Labor Day is over.

At least I took today’s photo a day pic. 3/365.

No guitar playing today. I’m in the office again and there wasn’t time before work and there likely won’t be time after work. I expect the same tomorrow as I’ll be in the office again. That will be three days this week. Ouch.

Thursday though. Expect good news on Thursday (but don’t bank on it).

Is the hashtag supposed to be #GibsonDay or is it #GibSunday? They both work. Should I just use both of them?

I haven’t played today, but I did get a couple of pics for whichever hashtag is the right one. I am so unhip.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. When I die, this sucker is going into the casket with me.

I’m probably taking most of this stuff with me too.

I managed to sneak in some guitar playing today in between my doctors appointment and punching in to work. The recording project I am trying to work through right now had three songs that needed lead guitar tracks. I finished off all three of them. My playing was poor at best, but who cares. Bad playing is better than no playing, right?

Here’s where things get super nerdy. I had three songs that needed work… and I used a different guitar on each song. My only regret is that I didn’t have a forth song to work on so I didn’t get to use all four of my guitars. Oh well. In further nerd news, I took a picture of each guitar with my Nikon Z5 and… well… nerd… I took a selfie with my iPhone of me playing each guitar too. Thanks, camera app on my Apple Watch that has a timer built into it.

We are in our second week or having to come into the office twice per week instead of once. It’s Monday so here I am. At my desk. In the office. Monday feels like a really crappy day to come in, but I need to pick a day to go along with our usual Wednesdays and I don’t want to come in two days in a row and Monday just feels better than Friday so I’m here on Monday. I did Friday last week and the morning commute was all right both days. Friday had the benefit of having far, far fewer people around. Monday has the benefit of getting the second day out of the way really fast. I think we’ll stick with Mondays for now.

My step daughter is flying home tomorrow afternoon. I took the afternoon off so I can get her at the airport. I am thankful to have as much personal time available to me so that I can do stuff like this. It’s a good thing and it makes me happy.

I took a pic this morning. Nothing special but it’s a photo a day challenge kinda thing.

I need a haircut. Did I mention that? Do you care? No? That’s okay. I need a haircut anyway. Just sharing, or maybe just over sharing.

What else… I don’t know. I have a meeting in half an hour. That’s fun, right?

I watched the third episode of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live (aka the Rick and Michonne show). It’s the weakest of the three so far (there are three more coming this season), but it was still pretty good. I am pleased with the season to this point but I am hoping the quality goes back up starting next week. No spoilers. If you like The Walking Dead, you should be watching. That is all.

Jen and I have been watching Star Trek: Lower Decks. I started watching Penny Dreadful the other day. I’m still plowing through The X-Files. I watched the first movie after finishing season five. Tomorrow morning I’ll start season six. I’m getting near to the point where Mulder leaves and that’s going to make it hard to power through. I’ll stick with it though. I promise.

Okay, back to work with you, Robert.

@EarthmanByron @cmonster I think if I was taller, a D-18 would be the one for me, but I’ve owned a couple of dreads and they just weren’t comfortable for me. I’ve a Bourgeois OM Custom (Sitka/Mahogany) and it’s a fabulous guitar. But these days it has to battle against my Gibson SJ-150 or J-185 for top spot. #acousticguitar #acoustic #gibsonguitar #Bourgeoisguitar

Pretty wee thing. Not sure I’ll gig it much but currently it’s probably my favourite to play round the house and write with. I could see me taking it on a train or plane as it’s a bit smaller and easier to transport. #acoustic #acousticguitar #gibsonguitar

I know some of you have had a sleepless night wondering how the new strings have shaped up today… Well, I have more exciting news. All is good. They sound just fine and the lighter gauge and the Newtone round cores feel nice under the fingers too. So everyone can relax now. Expect more urgent updates if I see a squirrel or a fire engine drives by. #acoutsticguitar #acousticmusic #guitar #gibsonguitar

Put some new strings on the wee Gibson L1. Newtone 12-54 80/20s. Not sure they sound as good as the John Pearse mediums I had on before but sometimes a new set of strings need a couple of days to settle in. It’s been a slow news day. #acoustic #acousticguitar #guitar #gibsonguitar #SlowNewsDay

@Ken_McConnell @Davlin Sure! #GibsonGuitar #L1
