Mjølnerparken: the Copenhagen ‘ghetto’ where the community are fighting back.
In 2018, then-prime minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen used Mjølnerparken as the setting for the announcement of his ‘Ghetto Law’, which he said would crack down on so-called ‘parallel societies’ and finally provide a way of dealing with the failed integration of immigrants.

"One of the biggest traumas that people had in the #Bershad #ghetto was that no one would notice the death,” #Shternshis told the #Jewish Telegraphic Agency. “So the #song that did talk about the lack of empathy, but also talked about the funeral, was actually a fantasy that all these things would happen — a prayer, a grave.”
This is Shternshis’ second “#Yiddish Glory” #album aiming to resurrect #music from witnesses of the #Holocaust in the #SovietUnion. Her first album in 2018, titled “#YiddishGlory: The Lost #Songs of #WorldWarII,” was nominated for a #Grammy.
That project was the first she reaped from the discovery of #Beregovsky’s documents, and it focused largely on songs collected from #Russian soldiers who fought against the #Nazis. The “Silenced Songs” album centers almost entirely on #Jews who lived in the #ghettos and #concentrationcamps of #Ukraine’s #Vinnytsia region, which was occupied by #Romania and #Nazi #Germany from 1941 to 1944."

"A secret #bunker, an underground #tunnel and an armband bearing the #StarofDavid are among the rare findings in a house in southern #Poland that was used by #Jews, including young members of the #resistance, to hide from the #Nazis.
“This armband is a witness, it’s like directly touching that evil which people created for other people,” Karolina Jakoweńko from the #CukermansGateFoundation, which organized the search, told The Associated Press. Seeing it felt like a “jolt," she said.
#Jakoweńko spoke inside a two‑story redbrick house in the town of #Bedzin, within the former #Jewish #ghetto during the #WorldWarII. The house served as the site of a “#kibbutz” organized by youth from #leftwing #Zionist groups — in this case, a network that relied on each other to try to ensure its members survived and resisted the Nazi occupiers.

Und so ist Deutschland wieder (mit) dabei, wenn #Ghetto's entstehen (#Gaza), #Vertreibung (Westjordan) und #Genozid erfolgen und der #Faschismus um sich greift - diesmal eben in Palästina/Israel.
Hätte sich vor Jahren auch keiner vorstellen können, dass gerade die Israelis mal eine faschistische Regierung haben.... -
"The #CukermansGateFoundation was established on March 10, 2009, in order to preserve the #synagogue of #Bedzin.
In 2024, the foundation gained ownership of the Bedzin #GhettoFightersHouse, where a local branch of the #JewishCombatOrganization (formed in 1941 on the advice of #MordechaiAnielewicz, who later fought and was most likely killed during the #WarsawGhettouprising), fought back against the #Nazis ahead of the #ghetto's liquidation in August 1943.
The #Będzinuprising was led by 29-year-old #FrumkaPłotnicka, who had only weeks earlier fought in the #WarsawGhetto uprising.
All of those who fought at the house were killed by the Nazis, and as soon as the uprising ended, the remaining #Jewish residents were taken to #Auschwitz."

First time leaving my house in days (because non-stop rain) for a work thing in The Hague. Lekker cycle through the rain to the station, pants are soaked, trains are cancelled once again, detour in a different train that's a full on sauna packed like sardines with my fellow peasants.
