MAN DISCOVERS HOUSEWORK 💎
This morning was cleaning day, and Pete and I cleaned the house.
We didn't just “give it a bit of a tidy.”
We actually cleaned it.
And once again, I discovered something deeply irritating.
It wasn’t hard.
For years, the mind has treated housework like a major civil engineering project.
You notice some dust, and immediately there’s planning, resistance, postponement, perhaps a small committee meeting.
Then eventually you just pick something up, wipe something down, put something away.
And twenty minutes later, half the house looks civilized again.
Being old has apparently taught me that many things are only difficult while I’m thinking about doing them.
The actual doing is often surprisingly easy.
Anyway, the house is clean.
We’re dressed.
We’re going out for bacon and egg hamburgers at Grill'd.
Civilization survives another day.

TOO MUCH INFORMATION 💎
This morning I pooped myself.
Twice.
Because I had a major #stroke years ago, I don't always get much warning.
My #mind saw two accidents and immediately launched a full #emergency response.
"Right... that's it."
"Time for that special waterproof underwear I keep in the linen chest."
"You've had a good run."
"Let's start looking at nursing homes."
It all sounded surprisingly logical.
I kept inspecting the #facts.
What had changed?
Then I remembered...
Yesterday I'd taken one magnesium tablet for leg cramps.
Magnesium.
Case closed.
In less than a minute I'd gone from #shopping for continence #products...
...to laughing at myself in the #bathroom.
The #imagination is a wonderful servant.
It's just a terrible #diagnostician. 😄

I have reached the age where I've discovered something I never knew in my younger years. Apparently, my knees have opinions. The problem is, they've become a lot more vocal with age, and they don't often agree with my heart. Getting injured no longer requires doing something stupid. There was a time when I could play football all afternoon, eat questionable food at midnight, sleep four hours, and wake up ready to do it all again. I’m having a reverse midlife crisis. I’m 53, and instead of trying to dress 25 again, I’m dressing like I’m 73. The T-shirts and ball caps are getting replaced with button-up shirts and pinch hats. The funny part is I actually like it. I quit giving a damn about looking younger. If this keeps up, I’ll be yelling at kids to stay off my lawn before long. Growing older isn’t the crisis.
