CW: US Election on November 5th
The US Presidential Election next week is going to be interesting, and I think it's a lose/lose situation. How much gets lost depends on who wins and the side effects.
Caution: this is oversimplified, I know. I'm only limited to 11,000 characters in a post ;) This is purely a thought exercise based on the temperature of politics in the US right now from everyone on the right. No, I'm not going to both-sides the hateful rhetoric.
First up, the easy one to write about: if Trump wins, we get fascism and it wrecks us as a country for 5-10 years. He has said as much and Republicans want this since surely leopards wouldn't eat /their/ faces. Anybody that's not a Christian white male loses rights quickly and non-citizens get deported as soon as possible.
The people behind Project 2025 surely would tell Trump to let them handle the details and then go on a cutting spree of regulation and departments like we've never seen before. The US economy crashes and some other country steps in to the power vacuum. Food safety inspections? Who needs that (cough, Boar's head, cough). OSHA? Just gets in the way of making money[1].
Next up, narrow margin of victory for Harris/Walz: Trump and Republicans fight this in court and this gets up to the Supreme Court quickly. Results unknown, the SC might pull something out of their hats to hand it over, or time might run out before January 20th, or they are unsuccessful in their case.
The third option would be a victory by Harris/Walz that's larger than what can be appealed/turned over by the courts. This is best for our Democracy and we get some shorter term pain because Republicans are playing by the rule of "it's only rigged if I lose". They've already been sewing seeds of doubt in the results if they don't come out the way they want.
Trump and the media have planted enough fear in people that they try and organize another January 6th event - but this time it's with President Biden in the White House and Harris as VP. Security would already be tightened around the US Capital and the military is on stand by to respond to violent protestors. Multiple people or groups of people try to disrupt the certification process.
I think we should make politics boring again. It should be regulations to reign in companies and laws to benefit the people. Companies definitely won't do it themselves. Politics is like a bus route: which one gets you closer to where you want to be?
If you want to vote in future elections, there's only one choice: Harris and Walz.

Anybody that's not a Christian white male loses rights quickly and non-citizens get deported as soon as possible.
The people behind Project 2025 surely would tell Trump to let them handle the details and then go on a cutting spree of regulation and departments like we've never seen before. The US economy crashes and some other country steps in to the power vacuum. Food safety inspections? Who needs that (cough, Boar's head, cough). OSHA? Just gets in the way of making money[1].
Next up, narrow margin of victory for Harris/Walz: Trump and Republicans fight this in court and this gets up to the Supreme Court quickly. Results unknown, the SC might pull something out of their hats to hand it over, or time might run out before January 20th, or they are unsuccessful in their case.
The third option would be a victory by Harris/Walz that's larger than what can be appealed/turned over by the courts. This is best for our Democracy and we get some shorter term pain because Republicans are playing by the rule of "it's only rigged if I lose". They've already been sewing seeds of doubt in the results if they don't come out the way they want.
Trump and the media have planted enough fear in people that they try and organize another January 6th event - but this time it's with President Biden in the White House and Harris as VP. Security would already be tightened around the US Capital and the military is on stand by to respond to violent protestors. Multiple people or groups of people try to disrupt the certification process.
I think we should make politics boring again. It should be regulations to reign in companies and laws to benefit the people. Companies definitely won't do it themselves. Politics is like a bus route: which one gets you closer to where you want to be?
If you want to vote in future elections, there's only one choice: Harris and Walz.

CW: US Election on November 5th
The US Presidential Election next week is going to be interesting, and I think it's a lose/lose situation. How much gets lost depends on who wins and the side effects.
Caution: this is oversimplified, I know. I'm only limited to 11,000 characters in a post ;) This is purely a thought exercise based on the temperature of politics in the US right now from everyone on the right. No, I'm not going to both-sides the hateful rhetoric.
First up, the easy one to write about: if Trump wins, we get fascism and it wrecks us as a country for 5-10 years. He has said as much and Republicans want this since surely leopards wouldn't eat /their/ faces.
