Hans Albers busts out some serious tunes in this propaganda-free #wwii #germanfilm as he entertains at local red-light district nightclub, when not pining for the sea or falling for his late brother’s ex. Ilse Werner perfect as the country girl ex. She gets some radiant, beautiful close-ups in back half as romantic tension crescendos. Agfacolor visually pleasing. Had some poetic realism vibes at times- though we get happy endings all around.
