Composer #GeraldFried has died at 95. You may not know the name but you almost certainly know his work. Fried began his career scoring films including #StanleyKubrick's #TheKilling and #PathsOfGlory. Other credits include #TheReturnOfDracula, #TheCryBabyKiller, and #TheKillingOfSisterGeorge. TV credits include #BenCasey, #Gunsmoke, #GilligansIsland, #LostInSpace, and #StarTrek. He was Oscar nominated, and received five Emmy nominations, winning for #Roots. #RIP

An iconic, hardworking, and prolific film and TV artist of the 1950s-80s, and a long, rewarding and full life.
Fried’s scores are consistently expressive and fresh. Filled with joy and exuberance, even as they’re often melodically, harmonically, and rhythmically complex. Plaintive and soaring woodwinds, aggressive percussion, and, especially in his work for Gilligan’s Island and The Man From UNCLE, a gleeful embrace of absurdity.
