  1. Jonathan O'Neil of the University of Ottawa telling the story of the Hadean mantle and crust from the few scraps of rocks left to us from that time. Short- and long-lived isotopic systems constrain the timing and processes of the Earth's first crust. The second keynote at the Geotop annual meeting, hosted at ÉTS.

  2. A very cool talk this week at GEOTOP by André Pellerin, University of Quebc at Rimouski. He spoke on the strange chemistry and biology of Lake Untersee, east Antarctica. This lake is perpetually ice-covered and the bottom covered with (microbial mats) similar to those found in ecosystems three billion years in Earth's past.
