Gestern in einem sehr schönen Waldgebiet bei Wolfsbronn dieses faszinierende hydro-geologische Phänomen bestaunt: eine Steinerne Rinne. Aufgrund der hohen Kalkhaltigkeit des Wassers & seiner (normalerweise) eher gemütlichen Fließgeschwindigkeit kommt es zu Kalzifizierungen und es baut sich ein Kalktuff auf, auf dem das Bächlein dann seine Rinne eingräbt. Die Dinger sind recht fragil, aber werden — wie die hier — von den Leuten da seit Jahrhunderten gepflegt.

Bislang dachte ich das wäre nur eine Redensart. Jetzt durfte ich ihn besuchen.Wikipedia: Alter Schwede ist ein großer Findling bei Övelgönne in #Hamburg und ein überregional bedeutendes #Geotop. Das geschützte Naturdenkmal ist der älteste Großfindling Deutschlands und hat einen Umfang von 19,7 m bei einer Höhe von 4,5 m und einem Gewicht von 217 t.

Das doofe: zur Einsatzstelle muss man 12 Meter schwimmen. Auf dem Foto ist der Beginn der Schwimmstrecke. Bei Trockenheit ist der Wasserstand so niedrig, dass man bequem auf dem Rücken dahin schwimmen kann.
Ist aber kein Niedrigwasser mehr ...

The talk was at the annual meeting of Geotop, the Research Centre in Earth System Dynamics with members from a number of Quebec's research institutions.

Joshua Davies spoke today on linking the Central Atlantic magmatic province (CAMP) with the end of the Triassic extinction. Isotopes and trace elements suggest that it wasn't the lava directly but the cooked carbon-rich sediments that did the damage.
