  1. Musical Interlude: Whenever I post art by Georgia O'Keefe, I think of this song. I don't know if I've posted this but I just HAVE to post it. I love this band, and this song is a funny little hoot.

"Shake the Dew Off the Lily," performed by Saffire: The Uppity Blues Women.

  2. "White Flower," Georgia O'Keefe, 1929.

O'Keefe (1887-1986) is an ultra-famous painter, even today. Her studies of plants from extreme close-ups are topics of debate and conversation forty years after her death.

Many felt, and still feel today, that her work was an exploration of female anatomy and sexuality, but O'Keefe always vehemently denied it. Her reasoning was that by studying organic forms in extreme close-up, she reduced them to studies in color, pattern, and form.

No matter how you interpret her work, it's still worth checking out.

    Happy Flower Friday!

    >>My New Mexico is full of people. Full of history. It bears little resemblance to the empty spaces depicted in O’Keeffe’s paintings.<<

Stimulating essay about New Mexico and Georgia O'Keefe.

  5. @aly I hope your day is going better than yesterday. Here is a #GeorgiaOkeefe inspired photo that I took a number of years ago in our garden.

  6. Progress report on new #freeformcrochet project. Top of the back and both arms shown, in double knit hand-dyed merino, also chunky recycled plastic bottles and a bit of metallic/Angora. Inspiration... Georgia O'Keeffe, body parts in a grey/red palette. The rest of the yarn is a lighter 4-ply. I needed a heavier yarn for everything to hang from. Much more surface work to do on the joined scrumbles.

  7. When I was in Santa Fe, we went to the Georgia Okeefe art museum, and they handed me an iPad with their audio tour loaded. After spending some time with it I realized it was the Bloomberg connects app with the Georgia Okeefe guide loaded up.

My wife and I realized I could just sit on the bench and work through the audio guide while she roamed around looking at the art. I also realized that I could install this app on my own iPhone and take virtual tours of different venues around the world. I just downloaded the app and took a tour of the Intrepid in New York city. bloombergconnects.org/ #SantaFe #georgiaOkeefe #BloombergConnects #Intrepid

🥥 Suzie, this #GeorgiaOkeefe painting really DOESN'T look like you know what.
Is it supposed to be hung vertically with the left side on the bottom? 🥥

  9. I recently visited Plaza Blanca (“White Place”), a unique geological landscape in Abiquiu, New Mexico that inspired some of Georgia O’Keefe’s paintings.

It was gorgeous! The rocks are massive but fragile; you can crush them into sand between your fingers. Very quiet and peaceful once you get deep into the landscape. Saw some magpies and a Townsend's solitaire.

  10. Another foggy, gray day here in the #sfba. A painting, perhaps to fit the mood.

Clam and Mussel, by Georgia O’Keefe, 1926.
