Oof! Reagan-appointed Judge Jerry Smith, the only judge who supported Texas's new congressional boundaries in yesterday's ruling from the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, has written his dissent, and it's really something. In a 104-page document, he referenced George and Alex Soros 17 times and swiped at Gavin Newsom. But he saved his greatest ire for Judge Jeffrey Brown, the Trump appointee who wrote the ruling scrapping the new Texas map. There were 360 mentions of Brown's name and he was referred to as an "unskilled magician" who "prefers living in fantasyland" and "no stranger to inconsistency." Smith's conclusion: “Darkness descends on the Rule of Law. A bumpy night, indeed." Here's the full story from @politico.
