I made an API and Javascript library that can do autocomplete, address validation and reverse geocoding in Germany as an alternative to Komoot Photon and the Google Maps APIs.
It is released under AGPLv3 license, so anyone can freely use it as long as they publish changes they have made to the software.
If your software doesn't have a lot of users, you don't need to host it yourself, you can use the one provided here:

I'm looking for an offline #geocoding solution to process millions of sensitive customer addresses. All within a small part of Germany and it needs to run on a normal laptop. Any ideas? #qgis #gis #gischat #osm #openstreetmap #opensource

So far I've found usable data for Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Rheinland Pfalz, Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thüringen.

If anyone has usable data for Baden-Württemberg, Bayern, Bremen, Hessen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Niedersachsen or Saarland with a license CC BY 4.0 or similar, please reach out.

#Geocoding is hard, I guess.

@felixguendling What we do to handle variations in street names when geocoding is to run a regex over addresses to standardize them, then feed the standardized addresses through a geocoder.

Here's a regex we use for US alternative street name descriptions:

Some exciting Indian 🇮🇳 addressing news - recently India Post has announced the launch of DIGIPIN - 10-digit alphanumeric codes (12 characters when the two dashes are included) corresponding to 4mx4m squares.

We have added DIGIPIN as a new annotation in our geocoding results and also support searching for DIGIPINs
