For #genuary6 "Lights On/Off", I took a fractal image and lightened it for the lights on state, and darkened for the lights off state. Most of my fractals end up with darker backgrounds, so using a light theme was an interesting challenge.

Genuary 2026 Day 6: "Lights on/off. Make something that changes when you switch on or off the “digital” lights."
For this one, I redrew parts of a colorful image as greyscale. The result turned out a bit subtle.

Genuary 2026,
Day 6: Lights on/ off
Day 10: Polar coordinates
Day 31: GLSLI never worked with shaders until a week ago and it took me some time to explore that way of thinking. That was fun, but also a tough bit of work.

Genuary 2026: 06 - "Lights on/off"
In base R. I treated this as an exercise in projective geometry. Given light source and window corner coordinates, first calculate the intersections of the ray from source through the window corners with the z=0 plane to get the window's shadow in 3d. Then calculate lines of sight of all points in the scene to the viewer location and project into x=0 plane to get 2d image coordinates.
R code in alt text.

Prompt 6: Lights on/off. I was too ambitious for the first day of a trip down the coast! the rest of the week will be simple

They call them lightning bugs because you can only see their true form when there's a flash of lighting.

I finally got back to this piece, wrote some convoluted code, and came up with this. Opinions/advice on the code are especially welcome. Code here: https://gitlab.com/mitten-la/py5-sketches/-/tree/main/20250106 2/x

I started working on the prompt for Genuary day 6, and got quite stuck code-wise. What I thought would be easy wasn’t. Then a large chunk of LA was on fire, and I got a bit distracted. 1/x

"Make a landscape using only primitive shapes" and "Subdivision."
Ye olde fractal tree. Clouds in the sky are made up of nothing but lots of circles.
This was partly inspired by one of my favorite photographs I've taken in real life. I definitely paid more attention to the sky than to the tree, both in the photograph and with this sketch here.

Genuary 13: Triangles and nothing else. (belated)
https://arielmartinperez.com/pages/2025genuary.html#2025genuary13
Another landscape generator, that only draws triangles, but this time they're so thin (and closely aligned, or so thoroughly rotated) that they become something else. This generator also echoes my entry for Genuary 6, and could have been an answer to that prompt.

#Genuary6 prompt: Make a landscape using only primitive shapes.
https://openprocessing.org/sketch/2501885I was inspired by @ronikaufman's sketch to try sampling pixels from a landscape/skyscape photograph, something I had been wanting to do for a while. It turned out well, and it has given me some ideas for other experiments in this vein. This one has an animation mode, to meet the #WCCChallenge topic of "wind".

#genuary6 - Make a landscape using only primitive shapes. The sky is made of only circles, and the ground only vertical lines. Using transparency and different color shades turns it into a landscape that kind of reminds me of a Bob Ross painting. Or maybe the Windows XP wallpaper. #genuary #genuary2025

"Make a landscape using only primitive shapes."
or
"A landscape escaping through a landscape frame."
I know, it's getting ridiculouser and ridiculouser 🤦 . Somehow this idea popped into my mind. I didn't know if I could figure it out but I got it done.Adding those clouds and faking the shadow was fun. A video version would be great... maybe some day 😃

Was thinking about how to respond to today's genuary when my daughter said that my day 2 attempts (layers) looked like landscapes anyway. So a little tweak to the system and here we are. Some cityscapes made of primitives..
