  1. Tell me, how far are we away from using an #LLM as a #fitnessfunctions with #geneticprogramming ? Anyone experimented with this already?

  2. Geometric Semantic #geneticprogramming was a big breakthrough in GP in 2012. The relationship between syntax and semantics is - in one way - easy to understand and take advantage of. 10 years later (!), here is the GPEM special issue.

  8. Now that you've finished CEC revisions... and finalising EuroGP camera-ready.. and you have GECCO acceptance decisions... and you've finished GECCO workshop submissions...

...keep up the momentum to get your paper ready for a GPEM submission!

  11. As my findings in my #GeneticProgramming research are becoming more and more thorough, I have started to document them. The main problem in my runs is still lack of diversity.

PS: It could be nice if we could write papers in some dialect of #markdown

PS2: These writings are for myself to remember where am I and where I'm going. No academic paper yet :)

  12. Alright. In my #GeneticProgramming research, I'm making some progress. I have reached better fitness values by increasing population size of each deme in exchange for decreasing number of demes. Also generating small number mel frequency cepstral coefficients really helps with better fitness values.

  15. A #GeneticProgramming question. There is this Lexicase selection algorithm which is basically terminating individuals which don't perform good on a single testcase. If it was regression, it could make sense, but on a binary classification, this means suddenly a huge number of programs in the population will vanish as they misclassify a single data sample. I haven't tested yet. But to me it makes little sense. Where am I wrong?

  16. My lovely PC is finally back after more than a month. Time to upgrade Ryzen 7 5700G to Ryzen 9 3900X plus an Intel Arc A380!

Some people might think it's an overkill for someone with my salary. But I need a powerful CPU with good multi threading support to train #GeneticProgramming stuff and a good GPU to train other #ML models. Actually it was real painful to do my GP experiments on the other PC I have.

  21. One idea I'm thinking about for #GeneticProgramming

In GP, we usually need to evolve multiple subpopulations named "demes" rather than one big population as the converge on smaller population happens faster. Then we have small, infrequent migrations between subpopulations, like 5% of population of each subpopulation/deme.

  22. God willing, my #paper will be ready in about a month.

I'm gonna name it "WakeGP: Efficient and accurate wake word detection using linear genetic programming"

Also #GECCO 2024 is close. Not sure if it's better to present there or publish it a journal like #MIT #ECJ or #IEEE #EC

It is important for me that my paper will be accessible for everyone under a #free_content licence

  24. #ChatGPT, #Codex, and similar models can do program synthesis. I think we in the #GeneticProgramming community aren't quite admitting this to ourselves! If a GP system could do one-tenth of the #ProgramSynthesis ChatGPT can do, it would win a best paper award at #GECCO, #EuroGP, or #GPTP. Should we just give up?

  29. @nmc I guess you mean #GeneticProgramming #SymbolicRegression..? I do a lot of that too, but never saw this behaviour before. Overfitting yes, but not sudden drop in train fitness. Has it been described before? It's definitely interesting because the mechanism we saw should indeed be possible in a space of trees. Ours was in bitstrings, but a special case.

  31. #introduction

I'm a researcher in #AI #ArtificialIntelligence. I'm interested in everything but my own research is often about #programsynthesis and #GeneticProgramming. I do some work with #neuralnetworks too.

I'm also into #music. On a good day I combine this with AI.

    I'm based in #UniversityOfGalway, in #Ireland.
