A quotation from Eleanor Roosevelt
We do not move forward by curtailing people’s liberty because we are afraid of what they may do or say. We move forward by assuring to all people protection in the basic liberties under a democratic form of government, and then making sure that our government serves the real needs of the people.
Eleanor Roosevelt (1884–1962) First Lady of the US (1933–1945), politician, diplomat, activist

A quotation from Teddy Roosevelt
It is all-essential to the continuance of our healthy national life that we should recognize this community of interest among our people. The welfare of each of us is dependent fundamentally upon the welfare of all of us, and therefore in public life that man is the best representative of each of us who seeks to do good to each by doing good to all; in other words, whose endeavor it is not to represent any special class and promote merely that class’s selfish interests, but to represent all true and honest men of all sections and all classes and to work for their interests by working for our common country.
Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) American politician, statesman, conservationist, writer, US President (1901-1909)
Speech (1903-09-07), “The Square Deal,” Labor Day, New York State Agricultural Association, New York State Fair, SyracuseMore about this quote: wist.info/roosevelt-theodore/6…

A kingdom is not brought nearer to ruin by the tyranny of the sovereign than is a republic by indifference to the common welfare.
[tr. Baker (1882)]More info about (and translations of) this quote: wist.info/montesquieu/2897/

A quotation from Teddy Roosevelt
The absence of effective State, and, especially, National, restraint upon unfair money-getting has tended to create a small class of enormously wealthy and economically powerful men, whose chief object is to hold and increase their power. The prime need is to change the conditions which enable these men to accumulate power which is not for the general welfare that they should hold or exercise.
Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) American politician, statesman, conservationist, writer, US President (1901-1909)
Speech (1910-08-31), “The New Nationalism,” John Brown Memorial Park dedication, Osawatomie, KansasSourcing, notes: wist.info/roosevelt-theodore/1…

National Nurses United Petition to save NIOSH:
Millions of Workers’ Lives are in Danger – Speak Up Now!
The current administration has effectively shut down a small but critical federal agency that helps protect the lives of millions of workers across the country.
NIOSH, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, has been a lifeline for workers for more than 50 years. Among many other vital services, NIOSH inspects and certifies respirators like N95s and other personal protective equipment that has saved the lives of countless frontline health care workers – especially at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Nurses continue to rely on this expertise to protect us and our patients from infectious diseases every day.
These cuts are extremely dangerous. Without these workplace safety protections, the lives of health care workers and all workers who rely on respiratory protections are at risk.
Join nurses in demanding Congress and the current administration protect workers and our communities by reinstating NIOSH. Sign our petition now:
