I was talking with a doctor last week about my early fascination with #genetics (due to a documentary I saw decades ago about the search for the genetic basis of Huntington's). I said that if I had been scientifically minded, I would probably have pursued a career in genetics. The doctor said it could be argued that, by becoming a #genealogist, in a sense I did exactly that. Hadn't thought of it that way. I just ended up studying how genes are passed down rather than how they go wrong. #genealogy #geneadons #dna

@josh0 Your best bet is probably to ask Germans themselves with the following hashtags #Geschichte #Lander . Maybe ask German #genealogist as well, usually they need to know that stuff for their research.

#RootsTech2026 is at an end.
Lots of observations...
* "Cloud" Tennis Shoes are not worth it (my 20 year old Mary Jane Birkies for the win!)
* While every presentation I attended had a great speaker who were knowledgeable, even the "intermediate" level ones felt like beginner. So, if you are an experienced #genealogist (professional or amateur or arm chair), you might think so too. But....
* The in booth presentations are seriously AWESOME. You can pick and choose which company/product interests you and see if they are having a booth talk.
The big guys all have professional booth talks. I even attended one that Christa Cowen had with "Ask me anything".
* If you were #NotAtRootsTech don't worry. The downloadable presentations really are great and informative.
* Most companies had deals for those that were #NotAtRootsTech that were the same if you were there. Granted, the software & book companies had plenty to buy and take home vs ship.
* Don't be afraid to stay a few blocks away from the Salt Palace but stay in the "free city zone" to take advantage of the free trax) tram /train. I stayed at a fantastic hotel three train stops away and was thankful to have the peace away from the convention.

How do you keep your interest going with #genealogy? Is the spark still alive? Or is the magic gone?
This is something that I've been struggling with. Recently, I had to make a few decisions on where to spend my #time.
I would love to hear from others on their thoughts about gen #research, #brickwalls, and #burnout
I wrote down a few of my thoughts and issues:

Walking around a local grocery store in #NewOrleans & I came across a huge stack of Poor Boy (Po Boy) bread. I absolutely grabbed one (#bread is life).
I found the name of original bakery owner: George H Leidenheimer from Germany.
What's a #genealogist to do on a rainy day in #NOLA (besides drink 😉)? Create a #WikiTree profile.
And just my luck, I happen to know a German that can help, @Flominator, until I saw which part of #Germany George came from. Drats 🫤

@shamrockgenealogist @wikitree Thanks for posting about the #Auschwitz Initiative on #WikiTree. This message was a needed reminder for me to continue this important work on the transport list I started.
I will add that if any #genealogist (or anyone that does #genealogy ) is nervous to help this initiative, don't be. Many of us will help get you started using tools built by @Flominator

Anyone have experience with flatbed scanners? Looking for something above entry level, 11x17 capable, and has some speed to it. As a former high end drum scanner operator, I've been very spoiled in my lifetime. My little Epson v350 doesn’t cut it anymore. As the accidentally appointed family #genealogist, I am tasked routinely with scanning old photos and photo albums, some dating back to the late 1800s.
Looking for a faster better flatbed scanner.

Can anyone help date this photo? Perhaps a #historian or #genealogist with an eye of fashion and garments.
Not my photo, but copied with permission of the owner from another social media service, to help him understand who this may be in his family. UK, South England possibly

Saturday, as we drove out on our errands, we passed a cemetery. I noticed a man looking at a grave. He had one binder laid open on the headstone and he was paging through another. "l believe we just passed a #genealogist I said.

In honor of #PrideMonth, we recently sat down with Stewart Blandón Traiman, the #genealogist behind sixgen.org/ to discuss how we can honor the #LGBTQ members of our family tree.
Here at Permanent, we believe that everyone’s legacy deserves to be preserved. Considering how the LGBTQ people factor into your #FamilyHistory is a great place to start.
