Sitting in a hospital room waiting for my spouse to come back from scans and tests, distracting myself by attaching records to profiles in the Family Search Family Tree, and filling out dates and places in their preferred format ...
Pretty sure that location is NOT Connecticult.
Or IS the devil in the details?

As of 2026, PrenticeNet is 30 years old!
In 1996 my father and I set up our initial website as a gathering place for Prentice/Prentiss/Prentis/etc genealogical and historical information all over the world. I plan to be more active here on Mastodon going forward. If you have Prentice info of any kind, please share!

Great Uncle or Aunt? No .. IMHO, it's Grand, not Great! :-)
Here's my logic ..
Your grandfather's brother is your granduncle, and your great-grandfather's brother is your great-granduncle. If you think about it like that, it makes perfect sense, no? I know a lot of people use "great uncle" .. but that just doesn't scale, would you use great-great uncle?
Taking it the other way around, your brother's grandson, is your grandnephew (not greatnephew).

Started a new #FamilyHistory project in my database and going to be putting my individuals in again using ORA to speed things up and for consistency. OnIy 2000+ individuals to do. Need to get a crack on. #Genealogy #geneadon #FamilyHistory

It is that kind of Wednesday with #genealogy
I know sand boxes are a way to parse out fact from fiction but I really dislike creating them. They are so time consuming trying to convince others why it was needed in the first place.
As a ProGen, it was extremely challenging convincing people that #DNA #ethnicity reporting can actually hinder research. But with very little paper trails, #family #folklore and #stories change from fiction to fact. Aaagh.

A criminal in the family?
One of my direct ancestors, Dominica De Mulder, was sentenced to a year in prison in 1820 for buying stolen goods. That was as surprising a discovery as it was alienating. Do I have a "criminal" in my family?

Tribute to the day labourer
The occupation of day labourer is out of date. Yet, it was one of the most common occupations until before the First World War. Consequently, many of my ancestors worked as day labourers. Now what is a day labourer?

During my genealogy research, I stumbled upon a mystery: a girl who had died at age 3 marries 30 years later at age 33. This is not possible, of course. Discover how I try to solve the riddle of conflicting certificates.

#OnThisDay 15 October 1854
My great grandfather, Thomas White was baptised in Egerton, Kent, almost a month after he was born on 19 September 1854. He married Betsy Linkins in 1873 at the Congregational Chapel in Ashford. #Genealogy #Ancestry #geneadon @[email protected] @genealogy

I'm a keen family historian, mainly Sussex, Kent and Renfrewshire but some strayed to America, Canada and Australia!! I love my #OnePlaceStudy particularly on a #OnePlaceWednesday. Also love knitting, crochet and craft in general. #geneadon #Genealogy #Ancestry #FamilyHistory

I received mail from my great-great-grandfather! The other day I found three postcards online where my great-great-grandfather Jerome Dreissen's fish business orders eels from a Danish fish exporter. An accidental but delightful genealogical discovery.

UPDATE: Book claimed (should have done this a bit ago)
ATTENTION GENEALOGISTS:
Someone left some old books on the mailboxes in my complex. One of them was historical records of the Virginia Valley. Pictures below. If these can be of use to ANYONE doing research, please dm your address and I will send to you (first come, first served).

@GrahamAncestry
Not quite, but i did do a thorough review of everything I found early on. Easy to identify as began to keep copies of evidence after about the first 2 months. And yes I had to redo perhaps 25%. -

Does anybody else think of starting their whole family tree over when they realize the older parts weren’t compiled with the same care and standards as the newer parts? #genealgy #geneadon #familyhistory

Just reconnected with a 2nd cousin because an email from his bakery (his cake was ready) came to me. Sometimes it's handy to have an unusual name!

How Napoleon (almost) destroyed the French Revolution https://www.historyextra.com/period/georgian/napoleon-bonaparte-french-revolution/
When the Corsican general seized power in a coup in 1799, he proclaimed himself a defender of the republican ideals that had come from the revolution. But, as Marisa Linton explains, the would-be emperor did all he could to dismantle them

Joseph Jean Laurent Roux heette eerst Joseph Jean Laurent Aymoz dit Payerne. Veel kans dat hij dit niet eens besefte. Tot hij werd opgeroepen voor zijn legerdienst.
