  1. The really annoying thing is that in Thai, the equivalent to calling someone “sir” or “madam” is “khun” which is gender-neutral. Since I reject the notion of gender and go by they/them pronouns, I’d much rather be called “khun” or just nothing at all, but get madamed here every time.

  2. I’ve lived on both sides of the line and been seen in one way, and now I’m seen in another. I’m the same person with the same thoughts and the same sense of humour. But the way people respond to me has completely changed.

  3. I saw how boys were allowed to take up space, while girls were taught to shrink, to smile and to stay small. So I used to think maybe if I were a boy, it would all make sense and maybe I would finally feel right.

  8. I never thought I would say this. I never thought the words would leave my mouth, my keyboard, or even the deepest recesses of my neurodivergent brain. But here I am, a #transgender woman in South Dakota, sitting at my desk at 11 p.m. on a Saturday, sipping coffee that has gone cold, and I am saying it:
    Bryon Noem is my hero.

  9. Severe clinical depression. Acute anxiety. And when the oestrogen begins to feminise their bodies — when breast tissue starts to develop — the reaction is visceral and often violently distressing. They experience a profound, catastrophic loss of self. Their brains, running on the wrong chemistry, trigger a constant alarm that something is fundamentally mismatched. Many seek surgery to reverse the physical effects.

  16. If you could push a button to swap sexes, would you? What if it were permanent not impermanent? What if pressing the button meant everyone has always known me as a girl, so there’s no sacrifice or stigma?

  21. I began to explore and search for my mum’s bras. They were not from Triumph, and I couldn’t care much. I tried wearing it on my head, like a pilot getting ready to take off.
I wore the bra, and would sneak the bra back to the wardrobe before my parents came back.

  22. I think about the magic button a lot. It’s burned into a lot of trans people’s brains, because it’s a tool we almost all use at some point — usually when we’re struggling the most.

  24. “Wait,” she lowers her voice, leaning in conspiratorially. “Don’t take this the wrong way but… are you trans?”

  25. Back then, in the late ’80s and early ’90s, liking what girls liked was a risk. The rules weren’t written down, but everyone knew them. Boys could wear sports logos or heavy-metal tees. Girls got pink, glitter, and heartthrobs.

  26. I miss the simplicity of the flat-worlders’ ignorance of science. They like their world simple, just flat.
Deniers want their gender to be as simple as well, biologically male or female, as if nature is that cut and dry.

  28. I am tired of conforming to society’s idea of what a woman is or should be. Buying razor blades and shaving cream is expensive. As I age, bending to reach every nook and cranny, especially behind my knees, is becoming more and more difficult. It hurts when I cut my toes.

  29. The truth is, I never really felt different, in the sense that I was in the wrong body, as a kid. By the time I hit my early twenties, I neither felt like a female nor a male. I just felt like a person. I enjoyed “female things” and “male things”.

  32. The truth is, the concept of “biological sex” is not ancient. It’s not universal. It’s not neutral. It was born out of the need to justify inequality — to fix differences and create hierarchies.

  33. Most people don’t understand who is who, and for them, we are all “men in dresses.” In some cases, it’s true, and there’s nothing bad about it, but in others, it can be offensive and lead to high distress and anxiety.
