  1. You have **no idea** how long it has taken me to get #postmarketos compiled, flashed and booting on a #geminipda

(With an added semblance of an Internet connection.)

I need a break from touching computer for a bit.

    🤣

  2. I've been enamoured with the idea of getting a vintage micro-laptop for a long time now, but doubted I'd manage to do anything with them. Then I found the Gemini PDA, and that it was on sale, so I had to grab one. It's a cute little thing! #GeminiPDA

  3. Took some time to mess with a Gemini PDA I had laying around. What a perfect little note-taking machine - just wish I could run a proper Linux on it. Termux is quite powerful, however.

I love the "smol laptop" formfactor so damn much. This thing would be a perfect device if it had an rPi crammed inside of it instead of some dead end chip stuck on Android 7.1.

  4. For anyone after a #Psion Agenda-like experience on a #MobileLinux #PDA, I've just released v0.2.9 of #Pygenda (alpha, WIP!).

    Demo video: youtube.com/watch?v=uvQqFmlZ6n

    GitHub: github.com/semiprime/pygenda

v0.2.9 adds two nice new features: repeats like "last Monday in May" and todo item due dates.

I run it on my #GeminiPDA, but it's written in Python/GTK3 so should run on similar keyboard devices. Would love to hear from anyone running it on a #PinePhone, #FXTec #Pro1x, #GPD, #eeePC, #Zaurus, or other!

  5. I've released a new version of #Pygenda - my agenda app targeting keyboard-equipped mobile Linux devices. The UI is inspired by Agenda apps on #Psion PDAs, & v0.2.7 adds a zoom feature, making it feel even more Psion-like.

To celebrate, I made a new video of it running on a #GeminiPDA: youtube.com/watch?v=uvQqFmlZ6n

It's alpha software & it would be great if people could test it on similar devices, e.g. a #PinePhone + keyboard.

  6. I've released a new version of #Pygenda, my work-in-progress Psion Agenda-inspired agenda app targeting keyboard #PDA/ #palmtop devices.

    Source: github.com/semiprime/pygenda

I use it on my Linux-running #GeminiPDA, & someone ran it on a #DevTerm, but it should work on anything with Python3.5+ & GTK3 (for handhelds that probably means Linux). I'd love feedback from anyone running it on other platforms (#PinePhone, #Fxtec #Pro1x, #GPD), and from other fans of #Psion Agenda.

  7. I've finally had it with my the #SamsungGalaxyA12. After nearly two years of constant mis-clicks, dialling people I didn't want to talk to, bringing up Google Assistant in the middle of calls and videos, nearly banning people from a Twitch stream I moderate, it's time to relegate it to texts and calls only till my contract runs out. I'll use my #geminipda for my mobile internet needs until the Samsung's contract is up. Then I'll be going back to whatever the affordable #sonyxperia option is.

  8. I've released an update for my Psion Agenda-inspired calendar app "Pygenda". Written for my Linux-running Gemini PDA, but it should work on similar keyboard PDAs running Linux & Python3.5+.

    GitHub: github.com/semiprime/pygenda

Video of it on a Gemini: youtube.com/watch?v=QjHcgeRudM (from 2021, so additions since then)

It's a work-in-progress, with many missing features (& bugs). However, I'm using it as my main agenda/to-do list, so others may find it useful. Feedback welcome! #Psion #PDA #GeminiPDA #GTK

  9. Genshin Impact for Android sounded interesting so I thought I'd give it a go on my #geminipda. After installation and login, it then started an 18Gb download. Erm... I don't think so, thank you. Not with only 64Gb internal storage.

  10. @martijnbraam Wow, very cool! Ahh it kinda hurts to see that this could have been the #geminiPDA...

But they unfortunately failed to take GNU/Linux support seriously and so only a pretty customized Android kernel runs on those devices...

  11. @jlk @kelbot
Man, the Cassiopeia! I had the A-10, which got stolen shortly after purchasing it :( WinCE 1.0! I Wrote about it in my #gopher hole:

Also, I have been eyeing the Astro Slide, but it is quite expensive, so I opted to keep using my #GeminiPDA. I was one of the original backers so I got the Wifi edition for cheap. Love that Planet Computers is still making stuff.

  12. CW: Pocket Computers

    @kelbot @rgegriff
Planet Computers has the Gemini, which I still use and got at a discount since I helped crowdfund (wifi version.) There is also the Cosmo Communicator, which is currently 25% off but still expensive.

And there is the new Astro Slide, which is even moar pricey and not yet released.

  13. @sk313t0n @nitox I got hold onto one #geminipda - the Linux support is a farce. You don't get a proper Linux kernel running there but rather an Android kernel and a unsteadily running Debian on top of it.

And of course, Mediatek doesn't give a shit about mainlining this chip, so I was quite disappointed.

  14. Finally running #pico8 on my Planet Computers #GeminiPDA with #SailfishOS. The downside is that it only works in portrait mode. :(

  15. Linux mobile OS makers Jolla: Sailfish OS (beta) for Accione P, official Sailfish X & release for Gemini PDA.

Jolla and its partners are reaping the rewards of their continued efforts.

Rostelekom's rebranding of Sailfish OS RUS as Aurora OS and other fronts are showing signs of progress as well.

A new Sailfish OS early access release - A busy few months for Jolla and its partners!

  16. "Later this year we will also release the official public beta for the #GeminiPDA. We are also looking together with our community into supporting the new #CosmoCommunicator from #PlanetComputers."

  17. Jolla releases #Sailfish3 and introduces #SailfishX for all Sony #XperiaXA2 models – for the moment in form of a free trial license. The full software package will be available later this year. In addition to that, #GeminiPDA owners can look forward to an upcoming official public beta #SailfishOS release.

  18. Late to the party...Monday's announcement from #PlanetComputers: New device - Cosmo Communicator

    indiegogo.com/projects/cosmo-c

Too soon! I'm still loving the #GeminiPDA! But I love the enhancements for #Cosmo, especially the backlit keyboard and external screen! Hard decisions for a gadget freak on a budget 😂 #pda

  19. Jolla: Gemini PDA into the Sailfish OS family!

"We are working with Planet Computers to bring Sailfish OS to their brilliant Gemini PDA.

The current release of Sailfish OS for the Gemini PDA is a community edition which includes basic Sailfish OS features, with no third-party software.

A fully loaded version of the OS is planned to be released later under the Sailfish X brand."
