  1. Ah, yes, because nothing screams "hobby" like lugging around a 1.5 kg #radiation meter to sniff out pebbles with a side of #ionizing #radiation. ⚛️💼 Who knew the secret to a fulfilling life was discovering just how irradiated your rock collection can get? 🔍🪨

  2. A friend of mine had a radionuclide scan around a week ago. It was really fascinating getting out the Geiger counter to measure radiation levels near them. As I got within a few metres of them, levels notably climbed. When placed over their thyroid glands, levels rose from a baseline of around 25cpm to over 15,000cpm! Scary stuff in a way, but ultimately harmless in short term doses.

  4. Some weeks ago, one of the #grandma recordings talked about a flying trip with her cousin, who quit flying when he figured out that the early stages of his #Parkinson's disease make it too dangerous. Then she also mentioned Hermann #Geiger, of which I had never heard before. I'm curious if @GEIGERzaehler did?

  5. Kann es wirklich erforderlich sein, das ganze Jalousiensystem herauszunehmen, bloß um diesen durchgebrannten Motor zu wechseln?!? Hat jemand Ahnung?

  6. @[email protected] For me this is like looking at a 600us interval of counting and asking me to count 1 once per ms events. It's hard to know counts per lifetime because I've only directly observed what I hope is <60% of a lifetime.
