The incumbent lost to fucking #PN. It's my first time voting in the state polls, and the general election during #GE15, and both times I've only ever noticed many Chinese voters not only in my voting station but ~3-4 others near me too. No idea how this PN fella could win but I'm guessing there were many other Malay votes to be secured from elsewhere I'm not really aware of.
I was over the moon when my first vote managed to boot KJ off during GE15, this one really hurts though 🥲 I live surrounded by idiots apparently.

based on reports on #Twitter, seems like this is true everywhere except for #Terengganu - which is expected to be the only state to match or surpass the turnout in #GE15 somehow. lots of other places including my own reported that there weren't any wait/queue even for the age 18-25+ channels by ~10am, when the queue was definitely long during GE15. it does vary between places though, some places have reported an increase in turnout instead of decrease.

I used to tweet local #politics a lot on #Twitter (all I do on Twitter really), and I'm almost the complete opposite here. Main reason being - Twitter is just where everyone else is (in #Malaysia), and it's also where all my (irl) friends are. I feel a strong need to keep my friends informed about current politics and the importance of voting. It feels wrong because I haven't really been tweeting in ages since #GE15, but until the results are out for the state #elections tomorrow, I'll be bugging people and following updates there.

Wanted: 18-24 year old Malaysians (as of last year) for a survey on #GE15. Please share this post!
https://qualtrics.kcl.ac.uk/jfe/form/SV_9ucYIKYEYHZSYHs
Pushing my survey again because responses have stagnated and I need way, way more participants before it closes. Would appreciate if anyone knows people that age and can help spread the word.
This survey is available in English and BM, and related to navigation of (political) information on social media related to the elections last year.

Appreciate if you can boost, share among your networks and direct folks to this! #malaysia #generalelections #socialmedia #malaysiaboleh -

Why is the #House #Speaker vote a big story in #Asia? It had little to no impact on foreign policy, trade, or any relevant issues. Whereas regional events, like #China's Communist Party Congress, #Malaysia's recent #GE15, or upcoming elections in #Thailand #Indonesia & #Taiwan have far greater regional importance, but get little attention outside their own country.
Wish Asians (& Asian media) would pay more attention to their neighbors.

My thoughts on #QT - it tempts people to talk AT other people. And ... it could help amplify disinformation/toxic content. One of the eye-opening things I learned from the #TikTok racist video saga this #GE15 was from @muniramustaffa . We think we're doing good by quoting these content and "speaking out" but what we're doing is just spreading the message. That was really revalatory for me.

Trying not to check work emails while on annual leave but (!!) just got news that I’ve been awarded two small internal grants at Faculty and Department level to conduct some research in #Malaysia about young voters related to the recent #GE15 15th General Election and I am buzzing! #youth #politics #undi18

Are we writing the news wrong? The avalanche of apocalyptic opinion pieces during the recent #GE15 election in #Malaysia have made me wonder if #journalists have forgotten that life isn't always a disaster, that there's hope.
A podcaster pointed me to The Christian Science Monitor whose news pieces always have a blurb "Why we Wrote this". Their tagline: "Beyond fear, beyond anger. Real news, real hope."
PS: I was a #journalist once upon a time.

‘Institutional reform’ as part of Ministerial portfolio in the new #malaysian cabinet. Time for them to walk the talk. #politics #ge15

Our latest issue of #AsiaUndercovered focuses on the recent election in #Malaysia #GE15, which ended up with a surprising result.

Woke up today wanting to pick up and reread this piece of work by Syed Hussein #Alatas - Intellectuals in Developing Societies. I’m sure this wasn’t inspired at all by the events in #Malaysia the past few days, with the #GE15 #elections and thinking about where this ‘unity’ government might go.

Has enough days gone by yet that I can ask out loud when will #Malaysia have a Prime Minister that is not from #UMNO pedigree? 😎 9 Prime Ministers, 3-ish 'different' coalitions, all with roots in UMNO. #GE15 #elections #politics

I'm sick for a few days, come back online to catch up on #news, and read that #AnwarIbrahim (!) became #Malaysia's new Prime Minister(!!!)

CW: Malaysia Elections
Really happy to hear that Pakatan Harapan's Anwar Ibrahim has been appointed Malaysia's new Prime Minister.
Translated Pakatan Harapan means Alliance of Hope, and we could all do with a little of that.
I hope this is the dawn of a new Malaysia!

Woke up to news that Anwar Ibrahim will be #Malaysia’s next Prime Minister. The cynical me will wait until the swearing in happens with the YDP Agong but I will say that for all my issues with him, and I certainly have many about his #politics, I am feeling the magnitude of this moment as someone who had his political awakening during the #Reformasi era, working with Artis Pro Activ. #GE15 #elections

Another night going to bed wondering what #Malaysia I’ll be waking up to. #GE15 was 4 days ago now … #elections

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ended a press conference at 6pm KL time outside Malaysia’s National Palace stating that there has not been a decision regarding the 10th Prime Minister nor the formation of the government. He also clarified that he is not interim Prime Minister.
The King has expressed a desire to have an inclusive government that works to resolve people’s problems and improve the economy. He will make his announcement in due time regarding the government.
Shortly prior, he and Perikatan Nasional leader Muhyiddin Yassin had an audience with the King regarding the results of the general election and how to move forward given the status of hung parliament as no party nor coalition managed to win the majority of seats in the Federal Parliament.
The minor coalition, Barisan Nasional, had declared that they will not form an alliance with either of the major coalitions and will remain in opposition.

Thought I was waking up to a new PM in #Malaysia, but the political impasse continues. My preference at this juncture is probably for a minority gov’t, with confidence and supply aimed at strengthening democratic structures. Reform, reform, reform. #ge15 #elections
