Google Play estrena «Game Trials» – Prueba juegos premium gratis antes de pasar por caja

Se acabó el miedo a comprar un juego y arrepentirse a los cinco minutos. Google ha aprovechado la Game Developers Conference (GDC) de este 11 de marzo de 2026 para anunciar «Game Trials», una función que permite a los usuarios de Android probar versiones completas de juegos de pago durante un tiempo limitado sin coste alguno. Esta medida busca eliminar la fricción en la compra de títulos premium y potenciar a los desarrolladores independientes que apuestan por el pago único frente al modelo freemium (Fuente Google).

Esta novedad, llega en una semana cargada de cambios para la tienda de Google, sumándose a las nuevas advertencias de consumo de batería y el rediseño de las burbujas de mensaje en WhatsApp.

¿Cómo funciona «Game Trials»?

A diferencia de las antiguas «demos» que requerían una descarga por separado, los nuevos Game Trials están integrados directamente en la ficha del juego:

Botón «Probar»: Los juegos participantes mostrarán un nuevo botón de prueba junto al precio de compra.
Tiempo de juego real: Al pulsar, se descargará el juego completo. El cronómetro (que suele ir de 30 minutos a 2 horas, según decida el desarrollador) empezará a correr solo cuando abras la aplicación.
Progreso guardado: Si decides comprar el juego después de la prueba, no tendrás que empezar de cero. Todos tus logros, niveles y ajustes se mantendrán intactos.

IA al servicio del jugador: Play Games Sidekick

Junto a las pruebas de juegos, Google ha desplegado Play Games Sidekick, un asistente impulsado por IA (basado en Gemini) que aparecerá en una ventana flotante mientras juegas.

Consejos personalizados: Sidekick analiza tu partida en tiempo real y te ofrece guías o trucos si te quedas atascado en un nivel.
Comunidad integrada: También permite acceder a los nuevos «Community Posts» sin salir del juego, facilitando el intercambio de consejos entre jugadores.

«Compra una vez, juega donde quieras»

Google también está redoblando su apuesta por la convergencia entre móvil y escritorio. Con el nuevo sistema de precios «Buy once, play anywhere», al comprar ciertos títulos (como la saga Reigns o Dungeon Clawler), obtendrás automáticamente la licencia tanto para tu smartphone Android como para Google Play Games en PC.

¿Por qué este cambio ahora?

La industria del videojuego móvil está sufriendo un cambio de paradigma en este 2026:

Saturación del Free-to-Play: Los usuarios están cansados de las microtransacciones agresivas y buscan experiencias premium de calidad.
Competencia feroz: Con X Money de Elon Musk amenazando con monopolizar los micropagos y Apple filtrando su iPhone plegable, Google necesita que su tienda sea el lugar más «seguro» y cómodo para gastar dinero.
Transparencia: Al igual que con las etiquetas de vampiros de batería, Google quiere que el usuario sepa exactamente qué está instalando antes de comprometer su saldo.

Game Trials comenzará a aparecer en dispositivos móviles de forma gradual este mes, con el soporte para PC previsto para finales de año.
