Beyond the Scoreboard: Play It Forward Raises £3,450 for Sick Kids In Hospital
Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity today revealed that £3,450 was raised in one week by kind gamers across the UK as part of the hospital’s Play It Forward campaign, which invited gamers to stream and take on challenges to raise vital funds.
The event was part of the GCHC’s Games for the Weans programme and was sponsored by UK games publisher, Devolver Digital.
Steven Mair, Gamer-in-Residence at Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, said:
On behalf of all of the young people treated here at the hospital who love to game, thank you so much to everyone who streamed as part of Play it Forward this month. Time after time the kindness of our creators show that streaming and gaming can be a force for good. Their support will ensure any child and young person never has to game alone when they are in hospital, and we cannot thank them enough.”
Since 2023, Games for the Weans has raised over £200,000 for the children and young people treated in the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow with support from Devolver Digital, US-based charity Child’s Play, and the UK games industry. Funds raised have gone towards funding updated gaming equipment, new games for patients, and the introduction of the hospital’s Gamer-in-Residence, who ensures every child in the hospital has a player two.

Devolver Digital partners with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity on Games for the Weans
The video games publisher is sponsoring the charity’s gaming service, helping to raise funds for children and young people in hospital.
Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity is delighted to be partnering once more with Devolver Digital.
The video games publisher has generously donated £4,000 to Games for the Weans and is sponsoring the charity gaming campaign for the next two years. It follows overwhelming support from the gaming industry for the service, which helps to tackle isolation and support the mental health of young patients being treated in the hospital.
Sarah Seaby, Director of Marketing at Devolver Digital, told SGN:
We believe games can be small acts of magic. Supporting Games for the Weans means helping children find adventure, laughter and company – even on the hardest days. If we can help give them space to play, explore and just be kids, that matters to us.”
Kirsten Watson, CEO of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, added:
We’re incredibly grateful that Devolver Digital have partnered with the charity and are supporting the fantastic work that our Gamer-in-Residence does within the hospital. Support like this has a huge impact on the lives of the children and young people treated at the Royal Hospital for Children.
With support from Devolver Digital and the US-based charity Child’s Play, Games for the Weans has raised over £200,000 for young patients since its founding in 2023. The GCHC campaign supports the gaming programme in Scotland’s busiest children’s hospital, raising funds for updated equipment, new games for patients, and the hospital’s Gamer-in-Residence – the first of its kind in a UK children’s hospital – who ensures every child in hospital has a Player Two.
GCHC is looking for people to get involved with Games for the Weans in 2026, including creators, gamers, developers, and publishers. The funds raised will help young patients in Glasgow, play games during their stay on the wards.
