It’s always been #GazaDelendaEst.
Since 1948, since Menachem Begin, since Meir Kahane, since Yigal Amir, that’s been the plan all along.
A lot of people are pretending that wasn’t the case, and that’s the tell.
I didn’t see it. It wasn’t obvious to me.
But once you see it, you can’t unsee the strategy and successful execution.

You’re right, in comparison, over a time-scale, the scale and scope of destruction in Gaza is worse than Dresden.
Netanyahu is not going to be talked out of anything.
He is pot-committed to #GazaDelendaEst as a strategy for staying out of prison.
The Israeli military and intelligence apparatus didn’t believe reports that incels wearing wifebeaters were practicing because they didn’t believe they were humans or smart enough to do the thing they did.

IDF intelligence *dismissed reports* of Hamas practicing before 10/7 because they felt it was inconceivable.
The Israeli national security apparatus believed the Palestinians were subhuman and incapable of practicing *doing the thing that they did*.
The Israeli public had a demonstrable lack of confidence in Netanyahu before 10/7.
Now, #GazaDelendaEst is his way of staying in power and avoiding prison.

The frame of “enemies who don’t stay on military bases” already concedes it’s an occupying force, and has been since 1948.That frame also assumes statehood (civilian vs military), which isn’t the case for Palestine.
The lack of a functioning left/liberal faction in Israeli domestic politics has left it with a messianic vision whose policy is #GazaDelendaEst.
It’s morally self-destructive, anti-social, and dehumanizing.
And Israelis have normalized it.
