Where does an #electronics wannabe go to understand what Nordic #UART (NUS) and #Bluetooth Mesh are and can do? I have an idea for what I want to do, but I lack all the practical electronics, SoC, firmware, #GATT type knowledge to even know where or how to start.

I run into a rabbit hole reading up the #bluetooth #gatt specifications. I just want a generic number characteristic that can carry the raw usecs pulse delay so something else can correct for air-pressure if it knows it.

For anyone following along, the HID Service spec (https://www.bluetooth.com/specifications/specs/human-interface-device-service-1-0/) is unambiguous about what properties (read, write, write without response, notify) are allowed for a given HID report type (in/out/feature).
I wasn't following this *exactly* for my PTP feature reports, which bluez was happy about, but Windows was *strict* about, and it would not work without settings those properly for the #ble #gatt characteristics for those reports!

But in hindsight, we all kind of missed the main event: the #TRIPS (Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights). This actually started before the WTO treaty (it was part of the #GATT, a predecessor to the WTO), but the WTO spread it to countries all over the world. Under the TRIPS, poor countries are required to honor the IP claims of rich countries, on pain of global sanction.

Three directions where to go next:
0. Improve stability. Two software parts of the #ESP32 failed frequently. Might get better with updates.
1. Connect and control various devices via #MQTT. A custom app for the watch is planned.
2. Instead of or in addition to MQTT, teach the ESP32 to do web requests for certain #GATT messages. This would effectively bring the PineTime online (when close the the ESP32) and remove a strict need for a (human-controlled) companion app.
