  1. Osipova & Lin describe a newly discovered Late #Pleistocene assemblage of pelagic gastropods from southern Taiwan. The assemblage comprises 14 #pteropod and eight #heteropod taxa, most representing the first fossil records of #holoplanktonic #gastropods from #Taiwan.

  5. Holoplanktonic #gastropods (#pteropods and #heteropods) are major components of modern Indo–West Pacific (IWP) #plankton yet their #fossil record in this region remains sparse. Expanding the spatial and temporal coverage of fossil data is essential for reconstructing #dispersal pathways of pelagic fauna within the IWP and understanding the origins of present-day #diversity doi.org/10.7717/peerj.21046

  6. I just saw the first bumble bee! Tiny insects are flying again. This is the time to come out of my hibernation modus and write more about #nature. I talk about #snails, and as they are still in their protection places, reflect on Homo-not-so-sapiens: steady.page/en/naturematchcuts

  7. In the Western Science Center’s current #snail exhibit “Life in the Slow Lane” our gold Inca snails (Pomacea bridgesii) laid eggs a few weeks ago, and last weekend they started to hatch! We now have numerous ~1mm long baby snails!

  8. Today, we applaud our student Fabian Sohn for successfully completing a project module in our lab titled "Social behavior of Physella acuta and the effect of perceived predation risk on its social behavior and morphology". In his work, he discovered effects of predation risk on social behavior and morphology but no evidence for interactive effects between morphological and morphological traits. Thank you for this scientific contribution, Fabian! #ecology #evolution #gastropods @academicchatter

  9. After choosing a name like Snail Rage Prints, I figured I should make at least one piece featuring a snail. The eponymous snail with some silliness.

No matter how rare or beautiful something is, there’s always someone who’ll sacrifice it for profit. What a sad story this is, and selling shells should be made illegal. Hopefully it’s not too late to save the species.

  17. I need help from the hivemind for a #snail identification. I have 6 of these shells, modern, no locality data. I pretty sure it’s a naticid, possibly Neverita lewisii. Am I on the right track? Thanks!

  18. The #terrestrial #pulmonate #gastropods (#Stylommatophora, Gastropoda) have two pairs of #retractile #tentacles, an #apomorphy (#evolutionary innovation of the stem species) of the higher taxon Euthyneura. The rear pair of tentacles is elongated and has #eyes at its tips.
    My photos show them in a close #macro shot using the Mediterranean #snail #species #Cornu #aspersum (#Helicidae).
