More #garmentsewing, with a hat tip to my amazing tatreez instructor Sara who sold me supplies & taught me the skills to make the yoke (on aida cloth). This was self drafted and used up the remnants from my spouse’s dressing gown, a beautiful thick nubbly cotton.

Have been working on this basic, white top 🪡 I need to practise using my coverstitch machine more plus I need more basic tops because my old ones are falling apart 🤣

Last day of Me-Made May. Just finished this Itch to Stitch Mindelo top in African Wax Print fabric. The designer always has good instructions and well-drafted patterns. #garmentsewing #ItchtoStitch #Mindelo

Made a button up shirt with SECRET CROTCH PANEL & it’s pretty profesh-looking except for the off-centre placket! I drafted the pattern expansions for the stripe darting myself and learned how NOT to do it on the sleeves. #MeMadeMay #garmentsewing

followed this tutorial for the button hole stitch, it was great!
-
ended up doing one machine- and one hand-stitched button hole, so I could compare!
definitely felt more in control with the hand-stitched one, but my hand-stitching is messier compared to machine stitched. will have to try it again though, it was nice to sit and listen to an album while I stitched
-
am also considering.... hand stitching the button holes??? it's only two buttons so if there's ever a time to learn it's maybe now
-
getting into the final stretch with these pants, just have to figure out the right buttonhole finish, install a few buttons, and do a hem!

two back legs successfully sewn together, welt pocket and all! second pocket came out a bit better than the first, thanks I think to newly sharpened scissors. tomorrow I can tackle the front pockets and maybe the front fly if all goes well!
-
have been sloooooowly chipping away at these Closet Core Mitchell Trousers for a while now but am hoping to make some good progress this long weekend!!
I powered through one back welt pocket last week but had to put the second one in time out after I caught an extra layer of fabric in a seam and realized I'd need to rip the tiniest stitches. settling in to get that done now then and hopefully the rest of the pocket will be smooth sailing!

Masha is supervising me sewing the Flapper dress 😺🪡
-
Finished the Flapper dress (1925 fashion) for the school play in mid-November 🪡 It is for a working class girl so there are no embellishments on it. The fabric is cotton and linen. The neckline is done with bias binding and then handsewn.
-
Am adding bias binding to the neckline of a Flapper dress 🪡 It now needs to be pressed and handsewn.
-
Just finished handsewing the armholes on this Flapper dress 🪡 It is for the school play which needs a 1925 dress.
-
Just worked on the Flapper dress 🪡 The side seams have been turned over and pinned. They now need to be handsewn.

Next up in my summer sewing: my souvenir fabric from Toronto is now a t-shirt! I bought a metre of this cute striped rib knit from @kingtextiles when Dan & I were in Toronto last month. I had some scraps of black jersey on hand, so now this comfy @truebias #rioringertshirt is done! #garmentsewing

OF COURSE, I finish a fabulous cabana shirt in time for the heat wave to end and rain and flood warnings to enter my phone notifications. Le sigh. Sewing info in the alt text. 🏝️🏖️🌊 🌺 #garmentsewing #sewing

Garment makers: what items of clothing did you start with? I'd like to learn garment sewing and figure I should start with something simple.
Beginner friendly project suggestions welcome! (and I'm already comfortable with my sewing machine.)
photo of some potholders I made, just for funsies.

Fun article about spring fashion trends. We all need a break from politics. Loved the denim jackets and skirts in particular. #garmentsewing https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/11/style/spring-fashion-trends.html?unlocked_article_code=1.4k4.wC3c.uyFX83XDfk5Y&smid=url-share
