Driving through a really dense pine forest in Eastern Canada, in one of the national parks, at dusk, after the rain, while the clouds still darken the sky, when this comes up at the radio. I was spellbound.

One of my most surprising discoveries recently is Melody Gardot, an American Jazz singer with a quiet, yet precise expressiveness I have not often heard in contemporary singers. Her performance of "Love Me Like a River Does", sung live in Paris with an unnerving intensity, has the power to make you lose track of time.
