M and I made a rare city trip yesterday so I could buy pipe and fittings. It's all a bit provisional at this stage: the filter bin needs to be populated with rock and stones and the 24V cable needs to be interred, and other things need completing.
I rewired the pump controller with a long cable so that I can keep the mains voltage in the shed. Otherwise, all the pieces are falling into place. Because, admittedly, the goldfish are getting tired of their small holiday home. I'm getting there, my small aquatic friends,

A double course of recycled bricks as a perimeter wall of the pond completed this weekend. The hole outside the pond at upper right of frame will have a small concrete pad to support the 150l biological filter planned.

Bricks and mortar. It's going ok but I'm struggling somewhat. I suspect the plastic pond liner doesn't really appreciate what I'm trying to achieve here, it is fighting back.

I'd be lying to try and say that I'm not finding this challenging. I'm best now to start mixing mortar and laying a row of recycled bricks. Yes, I have wet feet.

It has been bothering me for most of a year that the old garden pond got trapped in the cat aviary. Moving it would be a pity because the edge planting of Marsh-Marigold and Meadowsweet thrive too well and the cats love their large tasty water dish.
While the net prevent the cats from hurting birds, Damselflies, Dragonflies and Toads it also kept all of the wildlife from getting to the water.
So I bought a used pond liner, patched it up, and dug a new pond.
It turned out a little bigger than expected, I think it's about 1000 liters (264 gallon).
I still need to build a small solar-powered waterfall, dig out a shelf for a low water level swamp area, and hide the edge of the liner, but for now I have to wait and see if it holds water. -

That wasn't on the plan.
I've emptied, cleaned out and refilled the garden pond.Sacha was fretting that she hadn't seen any of her fish this year. I was concerned that the water was very murky.
So, I was talked into a 'quick job' that's taken all afternoon.
Certainly no fish found, so we've obviously been feeding the local magpies.
I got a fair amount of sludge out of it, but perhaps not as much as I expected.Thankfully this horrible job is a once in 5 years affair normally. It's a chance to review our anti-predator defences as well.
Now - I stink of mucky pond water and my clothes are filthy. Shower? Certainly!

🐟 Longevity That Astonishes
Koi can live far longer than most people imagine. While many pet koi live 25–35 years with good care, some exceptional individuals have reached extraordinary ages — the famous Hanako reportedly lived to 226 years. Longevity comes down to water quality, diet, genetics and consistently attentive husbandry.

Progress.
Attachments and hose lengths made final for the second pump. Caps drilled with holes for each return bottom outlet. Three loads of gravel dumped into the #poolpond for the floor. Then I realized there was a section of the wall near the yellow crate that was not actually touching the inner wall, meaning there was a gap. Not good. But the sun has broken through the morning fog so it’s too hot in the hole now to fix it. Will have to wait until Labour Day!This weekend is the 1 year anniversary of renting the digger to make the holes! I am about where I figured I would be one year later :)

We've got nothing planned for today, except keeping cool. The forecast is for it to be slightly higher than yesterday at about 30°C.
Yesterday I discovered that the garden pond pump had died, so I've ordered a new one - I'm not getting yet another Hozelock one as they only seem to last a couple of years and care at least twice the price of competitors.
On the opposite side, we've actually got a delivery date for Sacha's new car. Only 10 more sleeps! (if I've counted correctly).
Sacha seems to be getting on well with her CPAP machine, much to my surprise - although the stupid app won't connect and show her the graphs.

I've just taken the garden pond cover off, cleaned out the pump housing, and replaced the filters. I've got a small amount of blanket weed out, and.... given up - it's just too bloomin' hot for that sort of exertion.
I'll get the cover back on later. (it's some sort of galvanised metal on a metal frame, so it's extremely heavy and difficult to manoeuvre)

It seems I have a new pet .. in my barrel pond which I've explicitly not wanted fish in as it's quite small.
Reckon it's come in on a bird as I've not had any new pond plants for nearly a year! Frightened the life out of me when it popped out to say hello!
