The good news? I just expanded one of my wildflower garden spots to twice the former size. The bad news? It looks like my wild turkey friends ate most of the seeds that I didn't collect last fall (there was only one Zinna and one Marigold seedling, and no Cosmos). Luckily I have more seeds. Well, it seems that one of this week's #SolarPunkSunday topics will be #ClimateChangeGardening. I've had to deal with #Drought, #Heatwaves, #SuddenTemperature changes, etc., especially the last few years (before then, it was too much rain and cool weather), but I know there's a lot I don't know. I'd love to hear your tips and tricks for dealing with #GardeningChallenges in a #ChangingClimate!

So, given that I may not water my community garden plot as much as my home plot (out of sight, out of mind), I decided to grow the Hopi Blue Corn in the community garden (along with some sunflowers), and also some Indian Blanket flowers, which are drought-resistant. The sunflowers might not grow as big as they would if I watered them regularly, but they will grow (unless they get eaten by a critter).

With unusually dry conditions, gardening will be challenging this year. I did bottle up a bunch of rainwater, knowing it might be needed -- and it looks like it will be needed.

Today I’ll fill all pots for bedding flowers & drill holes in these boxes + fill them with soil for planting seeds. I’ve arranged my small station for cultivation (the magnolia above now has huge buds)
Hopefully I get the kale planted before too hot

#gardeningchallenges I have decided to primarily grow herbs and flowers in my fenced garden next year instead of vegetables. Gophers ate all of the beets, most of the cucumbers and tomatoes this year. I went to harvest the beets, which looked amazing, and only the tops were there! The rest of the beets were chewed off. They're going to have to go somewhere else for a meal next summer. Nope.
