The threat of a boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion (BLEVE) has been eliminated, per OC Fire Authority on X. Yesterday, a BLEVE was described as the worst-case, catastrophic event. The previously identified crack in the tank has allowed the tank to release its pressure. The temperature has been stabilized and is decreasing. Currently, it is 93 degrees (previously 100 degrees), marking a turning point in the incident.

Wildfire camera currently pointed at the soon-to-explode/spill tank in Orange County is currently marine-layered out.
I suppose, if it blows, the flames will be so intense you will see it through the fog, however.

2/ A lawsuit has been filed seeking compensation for the evacuated victims of the #GardenGrove Hazmat incident in #California. This video interview with the attorney filing the suit is revealing & informative. With a BSc and Masters in aerospace engineering (the chemical involved is used in aerospace applications), this lawyer boasts the expert credentials necessary to comment and prosecute the suit. He exposes the role and liability of the company involved. Very glad someone is stepping up to hold the corporation involved responsible for the extensive damage already done. #Hazmat #corporations #capitalism #PublicHealth

In Southern #California 50,000 residents of dense, urban #OrangeCounty have been evacuated due to a potential explosive #Hazmat situation. A storage tank full of an extremely volatile and potentially toxic chemical (MMA) is leaking and could either spill chemicals or explode. What a freaking mess this is, and to date nobody seems to know how to remedy it without significant collateral damage. The corporation involved, a subsidiary of a British Corp which in turn is a subsidiary of a huge multinational corporation, has clearly been negligent. They had almost a million dollar fine levied in 2022 for issues around their plant. This is what happens when greedy #corporations prioritize profits over safety and the well-being of the communities where they are located. #Capitalism #CorporateGreed #GardenGrove
