#Canadian "Social Media"

I joined #Gander a few weeks ago to see what it was all about. It might have been the ugliest, most broken app I've been on in a long time.

It took about a day and a half to get sick of all the psudo science/medical grift I saw.... Chiroquacktic, Quackupuncture, Reiki, the list of garbage went on and on and on

Not to mention the plethora of posts from people who apparently never had even a passing thought they didn't post to their accounts.....

2 weeks in I took it off my home screen.

Today, a couple of weeks later, I deleted the app.

The problem isn't the app. The problem is so-called Social Media. In reality, it isn't either one.

So has anyone else here not used #GanderSocial because of their requirement for #IDverification (which does not work at all via #CanadaPost #Identity+)? Like I selected that as an option but it never #verifies despite the fact I have the app fully set up. Like any #socialmedia app that has #ID #verification is gonna fail. #Gander

I will never again trust centralized, for-profit social media. Even if it’s Canadian. Even if the company behind it is a B corp.

Especially when there are open-source, decentralized options that are awesome.

Well, Canada's new Social Media #Gander is a fun enough experiment so far....

But it's really buggy, lacks a ton of basic features, and so far doesn't hold a candle to #Mastodon
