  1. On March 14, 2025, the ECLAIRs telescope of the #SVOM mission detected a #GammaRayBurst (#GRB) lasting 10 seconds, which was followed up from the ground to determine its source: the explosion of a massive star in a #supernova, just 730 million years after the Big Bang.

This is an exceptional observation: “Over the past 50 years, only a few rare gamma-ray bursts dating back to the first billion years of the Universe have been detected.”

  5. Exciting: A faint gamma-ray burst occurred 11.5 seconds after one of the two gravitational-wave candidates (S241125n), and from a consistent sky position.

This is interesting because no electromagnetic signals are expected from the black hole mergers that detectors like @LIGO observe in gravitational waves. However, there are theoretical considerations that suggest this might be possible.

A purely coincidental joint occurrence of this kind is only expected to happen once in about 100 years of observing time.

An article published in the journal "Nature Astronomy" reports a study on the gamma-ray burst cataloged as GRB221009A, the brightest ever detected, which confirms that it was caused by the collapse of a massive star, which subsequently exploded in a supernova.
