  1. I vaguebooked about it, but here it is.
I'm starting a #gamesdev cooperative, Anomalous Games. I, then we, are focusing on slow, async MM strategy games. How slow? A week a turn, sometimes more, sometimes less. How MM? 100+ players an instance.

The first game, Crowns Of Chaos, is a classic fantasy 4x where the weave of chaos settles over the lands like weather patterns.

My ideas also include non-violent cooperative games, cosy games. The big Q right now is monetisation 😵‍💫

Mal in der Höhe falsch angesetzt Dinge .. mal was verkehrt Rum gedreht

  4. #introduction

Newbie on Mastodon, immigrant to the fediverse, passionate game developer, living in the lovely Peak District.

Occasionally articulate, fairly low impulse control, witty mofo.

  6. RE: mastodon.ie/@unaminhkavanagh/1

    What players are saying:

"Impressive how the story comes together in such a small game and short playtime - well done! The writing is very strong and evocative & as someone who recently struggled with similar dilemmas about #gamedev, albeit from a different angle, I found it touching and relatable"

  8. Having a heck of a time trying to implement State Machine.
It doesn't help that I don't understand Godot and it's Nodes.
The only explanations of State Machines are for FPS, showing how to Idle/Move/Attack.
I cannot seem to figure how to apply this logic to a RTS/Colony Sim.
Nothing will talk to each other. I don't know where to place/access Data/Functions.

It's like I'm not supposed to make an RTS. Godot doesn't do that. Or at least no-one uses Godot to do that.

  10. Having an introverted few days, and I could be playing fancy new games on a Steam Deck - only instead I'm programming a tiny little game on a BBC micro:bit.

5x5 red LEDs, with brightness adjustable from 0 to 9! Two buttons! Squeaky little speaker, for beepy sound effects and gleefully robotic speech synthesis!

(Game is 'Volcano Escape' - it started off as a simple driving game but, with creative input from the 7-year-old nephew, now has a Proper Setting...)

  12. "What sort of work does a Lead Narrative Designer do?"

Well, in celebration of Tales of Kenzera: Zau launching today, I take a brief, and mostly general (because, you know, #gamesdev #tellnosecrets) dive into the role in relation to my years on the game:

  13. These are some really noise textures for #VFX.

Let"s see if you can guess what this is supposed to become and what is encoded in the first image. :)

    Solution in first reply. #gamesdev #shader #blender

[Edit: posting this I realised my albedo texture basically didn"t use red to I"ve got a whole nother channel to play with :awesome:
So i decided to split brightness and color for the color texture. (see third image)

  14. I marked my #lispgamejam #game #gamesdev as complete. Before I submit it, can anyone check if the #linux #binary actually works on n=more than just this one boxen?

    lispy-gopher-show.itch.io/jam-

    I guess I'll add openbsd amd64 and aarch64 binaries.

  15. I'm diving into game programming, specifically 90s software renderers. Now i know about the writings by Michael Abrash and Fabien Sanglard, and i'm pretty well stocked on pdfs about the general math involved.

Anyone have recommendations what else is worth reading? I'm currently only looking at real time engines, so raytracing is out for now. Anyone having material about Duke Nukem 3D or Descent specifically would be cool.

  16. #gamesdev Challenge of the week:

When someone is sequence breaking their game, try to have as many NPCs as you can be in a "what in the flying forest is happening here"-expression:
