  1. A little shelfie for this Saturday. Now all I am missing is the box and manual for Summer Games, as I have the cartridge. Maybe in another few years, I might get lucky again 😄. Cheers!

  6. First purchase of 2026 and it's an exciting one! At least for me. I've discovered a new movie ticket variant of a GBA game. Of course, there's always the possibility of information being buried in a corner of the internet or something, but here it is. Arthur and the Invisibles: The Game.

The sticker is on the plastic wrap of the game, which may explain why it's harder to come by. Even if you kept boxes back in the day, it's likely you threw away the shrink wrap on the boxes.

The only two movie ticket variants I'm missing are Monster House and (allegedly since I've never seen any photos of it myself) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But this only really says to me that there could always be more variants out there that just aren't very widely known or remembered and that's always exciting.

  7. Final game for the Lego collection on the Xbox 360 arrived today.

I think that's now the entire collection*.

(Yes I know Lego Star wars 2 is its own game too, but the complete collection has it so no point in duplicating).

  8. 🎮✨ Wow, another revolutionary piece of tech that finally solves the age-old problem of remembering what video games you own 🙄. Because clearly, flipping through physical boxes or scrolling a digital store is just too overwhelming for our fragile gamer brains 🧠💥. Now all you need is to find time to actually play them, but hey, that’s not what this app is for! 🤷‍♂️

  9. I am clearly not cultured enough to understand these. National Velvet confused me so much because I already got "National" and was expecting a person title, not a media title. Also Dizzy was my final puzzle and I missed out on $25,000 boo.

National Velvet: A movie from 1944

    Dizzy Gillespie: A jazz musician

I might play Wheel of Fortune some more on my Pocket instead soon.

  10. Bought a copy of Wheel of Fortune for the Gameboy recently and started playing it to test it out. But wow that certainly is an introduction to the game.

  11. Mom, can we have Gallade?

No, we have Gallade at home.

    Gallade at home:

By the way, this is yet another time where I can't find the original art at all, I tried reverse image searching the art on the cart (that's Meganium and Typhlosion mega stretched at the bottom) but nothing shows up.

  12. Something unusual I purchased recently. I'm sure some people out there know about this already but I've never seen this bundle before.

  13. To take a break from Perfect Silver, I'd like to take a quick look at this Taiwanese translation hack of Pokemon Yellow. It appears to be an early version of a lesser known Chinese translation hack. I hope I can find a copy of the possibly newer version to compare this with.

A fellow collector informed me that this translation was actually produced by Vast Fame. Now, I don't know about that personally but I do trust them as they know a lot more than me.

On the Analogue Pocket it boots in black and white... which actually makes sense as the Japanese version of the game (which this is built on) doesn't have the same GBC enhancements the other region releases have. Thankfully I can apply a palette to it. However, if you load it in the SGB core you can fully see the rainbow-ish sparkles in the opening "credits".

  14. I've never seen a game, official or otherwise, that did this. There's a square hole in the board and the chip is kind of just hovering in it. What's up with that?

  15. Can someone tell me where this Bellossom featured on this multicart menu comes from? It doesn't seem to be from the end credits of GS or the battle sprites. Is this from Puzzle Challenge or something? Somewhere else?

By the way, no Pokemon games on this. Seems it was fairly common to use Pokemon to advertise multicarts because of how popular and recognizable they were.

  16. Another fake pirate translation of Silver. This time it's masquerading as Pikachu Inc. but it's actually just HC Translations again. They even mimicked the title style which is interesting.

Although nothing super super exciting, it is still interesting nonetheless. Is it possible the people who made this made the fake Vida Translations Silver as well?

It's also too bad that I'm unable to extract it off the multicart it came on.

  17. Found a multicart with a previously unknown (at least to me) pirate translation of Pokemon: Crystal Version. Unfortunately it doesn't work in emulators and it doesn't save on-cart.

My assumption (as I don't have a multimeter) is that the battery is dead so hopefully if I replace it I can at least play it that way. If that doesn't work then I'll have to just hope someone can provide support for the mapper or whatever is the behind the scenes problem one day.

  18. Well, I've finally been tricked while buying bootlegs. Someone listed a Chinese copy of Pokemon: Jade on Xianyu featuring the alternate Pikachu head title screen in a green shell. When the package arrived at the agent's warehouse it was actually a different release of the game in a clear blue shell. The listing said that the condition was shown in the photos implying I'd get the pictured copy but I guess they were using it as an example photo (or it was a deliberate scam).

Maybe it'll end up being the Pikachu head version anyways, but I'm not really holding my breath for that one. Doesn't help that it'll cost more to ship now either. At least I'll have a 2004 Tian Ren release to go with my 2001 release.

  19. Yet another ridiculous project I'm working on, a bare-bones list of Tian Ren Electronics released GB/C games. As far as I know at least. It could definitely be better but everything starts somewhere I guess.

There actually exists pictures of a... magazine? Sales catalogue? Regardless of what it was, the pictures are pretty grainy sadly and not as comprehensive. It's a good start though, it helps identify which games could be Tian Ren carts without clear "SUN" QA stickers on the back.

It's a messy WIP that I still need to add to, so keep that in mind: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d

  20. The sheer amount of unknowns, niche information, as well as shell/label variants in bootlegs, unlicensed games, and multicarts across various retro systems really makes me wish there was a database for this sort of stuff. It would really make it easier to catalogue games rather than shoving everything into a clunky spreadsheet or table.

I don't know squat about making such a tool, but I'd imagine it'd take more time, energy, and money than the niche uses people would get out of it. Though if one existed I'd be happy to help contribute some of my gathered images and data.

  21. Here to reiterate again that bootlegs and unlicensed games are just a treasure trove of weird stuff that I really want but I may not ever find again.

Case in point, I only just found out from a tumblr post from 2014 that there is a variant on Pokemon: Perfect Silver 2002.

It's Pokemon: Pocket Mechanical Monster 2002. I wish I had both of these in my collection.

You can find more details on them at the following links:

  22. Recently picked up a box and manual set for the Candian Release of Sonic X GBA Video and planning to complete it with a cart soon-ish. Just gonna wait for a deal to show up.

  23. Always appreciate the multicarts that are more than just a text list. A little bit of decorative font and images really go a long way.

  24. I finally found a standalone cart of Vida's Pokemon Silver translation! Or wait, is it HC's?

    ????

    Nice purple Pokemon logo though.

  25. Well I've now defeated Lance, but I do intend to go through Kanto at some point. I'm not sure if it'll be immediately, I kind of want to take a break from trying to get through an RPG (even one as familiar and documented as Pokemon) in a language I cannot read, let alone one that is undocumented due it being an unofficial translation.

At least as far as I've seen, everything has been normal apart from being able to teach Sudowoodo Fly which is amazing. It's not been used for battling all too much but the flying tree has been my mascot for this playthrough.

That's enough Pokemon monster emerald 2008 for the time being.

  26. I know it's just one, two, and three in Chinese, but it just looks funny that it's just a bunch of horizontal lines in the elevator menu.

  27. Picked up a new game for the collection. I've only ever heard the name brought up before, never seen it. Their faces are frankly unsettling. Thunderbirds was exclusively released and Europe so to get it for less than $10 in America was nice (even if it has a kinda smashed box).

  28. Someone please explain why the hell Sudowoodo can learn Fly in this translation hack but Farfetch'd can't?? I guess I'm flying around on the back of a tree now.

EDIT: To clarify an error I made, turns out Farfetch'd did learn Fly but somehow I didn't notice. This doesn't change the fact that Sudowoodo somehow got the ability to fly in the bootleg.

  29. So the hack I'm playing seems to be limited to two characters per Pokemon name due to screen space which certainly makes everything a challenge.

That being said, I'd like to bring your attention to two of my favorite Pokemon, Espeon and Umbreon and their bootleg names.

Espeon is 天天 which translates to "everyday", but I'm assuming it's meant to play off of 白天 which is "daytime".

However Umbreon appears to be 雷鸟 which translates to "thunder bird". I'm not sure what this is supposed to mean, it doesn't sound like the English or Japanese names. It's clearly not a bird (and if you know the games it's a Dark type). Is this supposed to be a direct reference to a Thunderbird? I have no clue.

  30. Another cartridge I want but may never find. It's possibly stuck on an 2-year old OfferUp listing that is unresponsive.

What is Harry Potter III? What possible translations of Green and Crystal are on it? Does it actually have 122 games on it? Is the menu also covered wagon themed? We may never know.

  31. The Quick Claw apparently translates as 灼灼灼, which according to Google Translate means "Burning". Maybe it's a text representation of flame car decals.
