    Po poročanju portala Kotaku so v letu 2023 med desetimi najbolje ocenjenimi igrami na platformi Metacritic kar devet predstavljali remakei. Trend predelovanja in posodabljanja iger je sprožil razprave o ohranjanju digitalnih medijev, o tem, kdaj je predelava upravičena, in, v skrajnem primeru, kaj sploh predelujemo - problem Tezejevega Skyrima, kjer je različic toliko, da težko določimo, kaj se pravzaprav sploh še predeluje.

    Toliko bolj nenavadno potem, da ena najbolje ocenjenih iger razvijalca FromSoftware, Bloodborne, nikoli ni prejela posodobitve za novejše sisteme. Vsaka predstavitev lastnika intelektualne lastnine, Sony, sproži val špekulacij, da bo morda končno napovedan remake ali vsaj posodobljena izdaja. Namesto uradne posodobitve je leta 2022 razvijalka Lilith Walker na platformi itch.io izdala Bloodborne PSX - predelavo začetka igre z retro estetiko originalnega PlayStationa.   6. lj games club – MDickie and Comedy Games

    MDickie and Comedy Games

    At our next Ljubljana Games Club meeting, taking place on May 13th, we’ll be discussing three of the latest games by solo developer MDickie (Matt Dickie): Wrestling Empire (2021), Old School (2023), and Hard Time III (2024). MDickie’s games have gained popularity among streamers and YouTubers thanks to their bizarre, amateurish aesthetics, janky wrestling mechanics, and chaotic sandbox design. While these games are rarely considered “good” by conventional standards, they succeed in creating emergent comedic narratives that portray the interpersonal drama, violence, and absurdity of the wrestling world (Wrestling Empire), the education system (Old School), and prison life (Hard Time III).

    We’ll analyze MDickie’s work as an example of “comedy games” and explore how games can function as vehicles for humor more broadly. To prepare, aim to spend 30–60 minutes with each of the three games.

    If you’re short on time, I would recommend trying Wrestling Empire, as it’s widely considered the best of the trio and offers a strong sense of MDickie’s overall approach. You can find all three games on Steam:

    Zakaj v linearnih igrah fantaziramo o "pobegu" iz tirnic, v open world-ih pa se nam zdaj "vidiš to goro? Lahko jo preplezaš" zdi že skoraj vsakdanje?

    O tem lahko razmišljaš na vlaku, prvo je treba dobiti karto in priti do postaje. Misija je namreč preprosta - zapustiti je treba mesto BABBDI.

    Na naslednjem srečanju se bomo spustili v pogovor o kratkem indie hitu BABBDI bratov Lemaitre. Poleg igre same se bomo pogovarjali o digitalnih okoliših kot samozadostnih svetovih, "exploration" igrah, pobegih iz tračnic iger, o trikih, ki jih
    igre izvajajo da vzbujajo lažen občutek večjega sveta in pa seveda o vseh temah, ki se bodo pojavile tekom diskusije.

Alongside talking about the game itself we will talk about digital spaces as self-sufficient worlds, exploration games, boundary breaks, about tricks games pull to give a false sense of a larger world and of course about any topics that might come up during the discussion itself.

    Why do we fantasize of "breaking out of bounds" in linear games, yet in open worlds "see that mountain? You can climb over there." ny now feels almost mundane?

    You can ponder this on the train, but first you need to get a ticket and make your way to the train station. The mission is simple - You need to leave the city of BABBDI.

    On the next meeting we will discuss the short indie hit BABBDI by Lemaitre brothers. Alongside talking about the game itself we will talk about digital spaces as self-sufficient worlds, exploration games, boundary breaks, about tricks games pull to give a false sense of a larger world and of course about any topics that might come up during the discussion itself.

    BABBDI is available for free on Steam and Itch.io and takes somewhere between 10 minutes and an hour to complete.
