  1. I've been playing this Steam game called Roadwarden, almost done with it. It's a nice little fantasy visual novel / text game where you have to maintain the roads north of the big city. Community building, trade, reputation, a little combat. Quite nice.

I'm not really into visual novels because they often feel "on the rails," where you're stuck in one place just talking to people. With the UI and travel system in this one, you've got the sense of exploration and freedom of an RPG, with just enough stats to manage that it feels more like a game than a book, but it's still text-heavy.

  2. John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando has hordes, class abilities, and the rare joy of watching a four-door sedan sail into a crowd of zombies.

It’s familiar sludge—but there’s fun buried in it with three friends. 👾🕹️🎮

    Game: Ys X Nordics
I started playing it during this past June. Didn't continue.

After having enjoyed the game Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, I tried playing this one, with one son, since it was published as supporting couch coop.
Unfortunately, the couch coop support was kind of buggy and we had a difficult time coordinating our movements. Looks like this support was tacked on by a fan of the series (and it was removed from a later edition of the game).

    Game: Ys IX: Monstrum Nox
    Played during April-May this year.
I wanted to play this with my son but ended up playing it by myself.

It's the first JPRG I seriously played. I wasn't familiar with the previous games in the YS series. But luckily the game doesn't assume any familiarity and the plot is self-contained.

At first I disliked it, but then it grew on me to the point I went ahead and played it to get to all the subplots and some of the extra bonuses.

    Game: 80 days.
    Played it yesterday.
I should have really liked it. I like Jon Ingold's IF games, and his Ink authoring system.
I did like the concept at first, Verne's Around the world in 80 Days taking place in a steampunk world that never was, with multiple kinds of flying machines and cars and robots.

But the sub-plots didn't gel for me, conversations during trips were oddly for information gathering only, and after a while it felt boring and repetitive.

    Game: Elden Ring.
    Played yesterday.

Well, I knew this game isn't for me. My eye-hand coordination is... lacking. I can get by with stealth games and with button smashing fight games, but not when exact timing is necessary. And I get discouraged if I die a lot.
I tried this game only due to FOMO, to see what's it about and get it out my system, since it's so massively hyped online.

    Game: Disco Elysium.
    Played during late August-September.

This is one of the best computer games I've ever played, even if a flawed one. Hugely original, both in concept, execution, and world building. I explain it to people as: "It's a detective story set in a fantasy world that's eerily similar to Eastern Europe after the wall fell."
The game was produced by an Estonian company. It's decidedly not American.

  10. We review Blue Prince: a puzzle roguelite where you draft rooms each run to reach Room 46 in Mt. Holly. Meaty design, strong environmental storytelling via terminals and notes, smooth on Deck with an FPS cap set. But RNG hurts mystery games more than action ones, pacing drags through empty rooms, QoL is thin (no mid-run save), meta-progression limited.

  11. I'm on my second playthrough of Arcade Paradise and I have to say that this game is as close to perfection as it can get. If you're into 90s nostalgia (and 80s as well) and like arcade games, definitely give it a try. I'd be tempted to buy it just for the soundtrack 🔥

  13. Here is my #review for #Gris, at last! I finished this game earlier in the month and finally got around writing about it.

This is a relatively short post but I'm happy with it.

  15. A bold new direction for A Plague Tale. ⚔️

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy trades stealth for faster, action-focused combat without losing the series' storytelling, atmosphere, and gorgeous world design.

  16. MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls makes its 4v4 combat easy to jump into, then keeps opening up as assists, team building, and deeper commands come into play. We came away impressed.

  17. Madden NFL 27 improves the football where it counts most. Better defence, quicker pre-snap control, and a deeper Franchise Mode make this year’s game more convincing, even if some familiar AI issues remain.
