Як експансивна куля.Національна зброя менш попсових культур здатна принести цікавий вайб у геймдизайн. Особливо якщо втілюється не поверхнево.

Я сыграл в 10 инди хорроров и понял что мы забыли о страхе
Я очень люблю хорроры. Особенно нишевых представителей этого культурного пласта. Как только в кино выходит очередной слешер про морячка Папая или Бэмби — я сразу же бегу в кинотеатр и покупаю билет. Часто в зале я сижу один, но понимаю, что это не из‑за качества фильма, а очень специфичной темы. Так и в играх я всегда прохожу новенькие ужастики в числе первых. Но в современном мире AAA‑хорроры выходят крайне редко из‑за сложности жанра. Не из‑за сложности создания, а из‑за сложности окупаемости. Тяжело продать массовой аудитории хорошие ужасы. Поэтому периодически я захожу на itch и ищу, какие новенькие проекты вышли из‑под пера маленьких команд. Но в этот раз я решил пойти по немного другому пути: я скачал 10 хорроров, несмотря на то, как игра себя позиционирует и какой рейтинг имеет. Я захотел разобраться в том, как молодые геймдизайнеры справляются с проектированием ужаса и какие ошибки допускают. Предлагаю окунуться в этот мир вместе со мной и посмотреть на то, как работают современные инди‑хорроры и где теряют игрока. Продолжить исследование...

I really want to make a tactics game based around managing a fleet of starships. Have some kind of political intrigue story where the player character starts as a humble freight operator and stumbles into some kind of conspiracy/war, builds their own fleet of warships, and saves the day.
Would be a simultaneous turn based kind of thing.

1) oatmeal is often the point. If you're generating background or interchangeable elements such as trees or 9000 slightly different pistols, reliability is far more critical than creativity or range.

[P] Frankly, I see Curiosity and 22Cans' NFT game as fatalist cynicism. It's what happens when a dreamer hits rock bottom and the mindset is "Fuck you guys. I'll show you just how stupid you really are." In a darker timeline, one where I had the means? I would've absolutely run shady social experiments to prove neuroenshittification, and just how much the world needs neurodivergent peiple calling the shots. Molyneux is kind of a tragedy.

And the festering, poisonous c-suite pit of shit was all too happy to let him take the fall. And did the cowards at RPS ever, EVER go after the c-suites? Nah, nah, of course not. Why bother when you can bully Molyneux for ad revenue instead of chasing the truth? I detested RPS.

[P] A problem neuronormative people have is that they actually, truly don't at all grasp the difference between "Wouldn't it be cool if?" and "This is an absolute, factual promise—no, a pact—for the game on release day!!!" I do. I knew that Molyneux was just dreamin' and postulatin'. It is what dreamers do. I understood that it wasn't a promise, but then I'm autistic so I bloody think about things, sometimes. I do appreciate autism.

[P] But what about before? See, if you have an optimist and dreamer, the moral thing to do is to appoint them a handler so they don't overpromise. But suit-encrusted c-suite monsters aren't moral, or even people, so they're going to put Molyneux in front of as many interviewers as they can. His genuine enthusiasm for games is free marketing. That enthusiasm gets neuronormative people hyped up. The c-suites knew that, they used it.

[P] The predatory hit piece by John Walker didn't surprise me at all, it's just the kind of person he is. And if anyone dared criticise him for being a predatory vulture? He'd screech "Gamergate! Gamergate!" Awful person. Molyneux didn't deserve what John Walker did. Molyneux's main problem is that he was an optimist and a dreamer. He was so sure Godus would succeed, its utter failure almost killed his desire for game design.

[P] One of those vultures was John Walker of Rock, Paper, Shotgun—a genuinely wretched little man who was so narcissistic that he'd make narcissists blush. Frankly, most of RPS was genuinely wretched back then, there was so much sociopathy and narcissism, they were so insipidly full of themselves. I'd had the very unfortunate opportunity to converse with them, on occasion. Genuinely bad, self-obsessed people. RPS is better without them.
