I just finished replaying Half-Life. Even though it's an old FPS, i still enjoyed the level design and all the details that made navigating the facility eventful and fun.
Since i wanted to play it on the couch, i used the Darkwalker Shotpad. It's a fitting controller for old PC games, when i don't want to sit at the desk.

The #N64 controller is one most unique mainstream console controllers ever made and brought analogue controls to the masses. But for some reason nobody appears to be able to create proper replacements, which stay true to the original while using modern technology. Super interesting video about the #Nintendo64 controller and some third party replacements illustrating all the unique things and quirks about this legendary input device:

And I finally ordered a an official N64 controller for the Switch which can be used on PC.
Too bad it stays too true to the original in one critical aspect: It uses the same stick design prone to wear. 🙈 At least it's said to be properly lubed... but I better not be playing #MarioParty 1 with that thing. :ugly: -

in my experience #usbc is very prone to physical disconnection when cable moves. this matters a lot in case of a #gamecontroller. to add insult to an injury, this one won't (re)activate automatically - you need to press xbox logo button and wait ~3 seconds for it to work... (otherwise, it's probably best pad i ever had) #gaming

Writing bindings for game controllers is a huge pain, especially when the game is big and has a ton of actions you have to bind to different controls. It becomes worse when the game is an audio game and requiring lots of controls for announcement of information that's too crucial to be put under a menu or something like that.

Why did Microsoft abandon the sleek, chiseled, irrefutably "gamer" design of the Xbox 360 controller and switch to the somewhat bulky, un-stylized design of the Series X|S controllers?
I haven't held the latter so I can't say if they're more comfortable or not, but man, the 360's design was slick!
