@jonathanfoyle.bsky.social Also in case of natural disasters. The lab & all facilities of the Maritime Archaology Unit of Sri Lanka were lost in the 2004 tsunami. The multi-year excavation of the 'Avondster' shipwreck had been completed days before, & all artefacts returned to the sea. However, recording & offsite backup ensured that most of the knowledge was retained.

Das war eben sehr schön, beim Nacht-walk wurde ich von einem der beiden letzten Leuchtturmwärter in #Galle angesprochen. Sie haben mich auf ein Gespräch eingeladen, inklusive Fachwissen zur Linse, die derzeit von Osram stammt. Alle 15 Sekunden blitz es hier.
Leider werden auch hier mehr und mehr Leuchtturm-Wärter wegrationalisiert. Das hat mich etwas traurig gemacht, da die beiden sehr selbstlos und mit vollem Tatendrang über ihren Leuchtturm geredet haben.

Bis vor einigen Jahren gab es ein tolles #AutonomesZentrum in #HalleSaale, die #Hasi in der Hafenstraße7. Ich war da oft und hatte da eine gute Zeit. Das Gebäude war besetzt und gehört der städtischen Wohnungsgesellschaft, der HWG. Die wollte das Haus nach 3 Jahren Besetzung räumen lassen, das ging in die Hose. Eine Lösung wurde politisch gefunden, daraus entstand die #Galle. Jetzt will die HWG das Haus für viel Geld verkaufen.
