Sorry, no diesel
I walked past Blarney Autos this morning and clocked the "SORRY NO DIESEL" sign on a car blocking the diesel pumps there. The fuel protests have been rumbling on around the country for days now, refineries are ringed by placards, and the knock-on is landing on forecourts like this one. It doesn't help that roughly two-thirds of what we pay at the pump is tax of one flavour or another, and the war in Iran has shoved the wholesale price of oil the wrong way. Golden Hour at The Roundy
Late afternoon sun hit Castle Street at just the right angle and turned the whole scene outside The Roundy into something cinematic. The outside area of the pub was packed with people drinking and enjoying the afternoon and soaking up the kind of Cork sunshine you never quite trust to last.
The lens flare flooding in from the right was almost too much, but I leaned into it rather than fighting it. Sometimes the technically “wrong” choice is the one that captures the actual feel of a moment and this one felt like the first real evening of spring.

Let the Good Times Flow (Eventually)
If you’ve been anywhere near Grand Parade in Cork lately, you’ll know the scene: hoarding, fencing, traffic cones, and that slightly bewildered look on everyone’s face as they try to work out which footpath is still open this week.
This is what it looked like 2 weeks ago when a sewerage pipe was laid across Nano Nagle Bridge to Sullivan’s Quay.
I found out that Uisce Éireann is working in the area:
Uisce Éireann is commencing works in the Grand Parade area of the city to make improvements to Cork City’s wastewater infrastructure.
The works will allow access for specialist contractors to the underground Pump Station located on Grand Parade, for removal of redundant equipment, cleaning of the pumping station and removal of historical debris. It will afford further opportunities to survey and inspect the existing structure and
will provide resilience for the continuation of critical wastewater infrastructure improvements within Cork City.Works are due to commence in January 2026.
The section of works will take place on a short section of Sullivans Quay, across Nano Nagle Bridge and along Grand Parade.
The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. and are expected to be completed by mid-March 2026.
In February 2007 the Grand Parade was a construction site too. That was when the wide pavements were laid, along with the makeover of St. Patrick Street too.

Steps That Test Your Holiday Fitness
I climbed up and down these steps daily while on holiday. They led to my apartment while I was in Fuerteventura. Even in daylight you had to be careful, but it was at night that you were really challenged. There was no lighting at all except for the street lights that shone over the high walls, casting deep shadows on most of the ground. The torch function of my phone got plenty of use.
The yellow you see here was mostly worn away and gone on the top of each step making the descent a little more difficult and ensuring one had to be paying full attention to what they were doing.
Late in the afternoon one day I was returning and noticed the shadows on the weathered paint of the steps. I love that, but the missing reflectors or lights that were supposed to be there just added to the dilapidated look.

The Boat Cove Boys
In the middle of July when Ireland was moderately warm and the sea was, if not warm, ok to swim in for a few minutes at a time. A bunch of lads were jumping off the pier at Ardmore Boat Cove, but when we walked by, they were playing football and I think one team had scored a goal a moment before. 🙂

Samsung Galaxy S23 gets the One UI 8 update in India!
We are excited to announce that starting from today, users can now download the One UI 8 update to their Galaxy S23 smartphones in India as Samsung has finally released this exciting version of One UI. It has caused the Galaxy S23 beta program to shut down in India. Your Galaxy has now become more powerful as One UI 8 brings more powerful features.
It was previously expected to get the update for the Galaxy S23 and all other devices scheduled for last Thursday in India to follow Europe, but the rollout didn’t happen due to a national Indian holiday on October 2nd, Gandhi Jayanti.
The firmware information states:
To obtain the update, perform the following steps:
- Open the Settings app
- Navigate to Software Updates
- Tap on Download and Install
- Wait until you see One UI 8 at the top of the page, then tap on Download
- Wait for the download to complete, then tap on Install
After you perform the above steps, your phone will be running One UI 8 based on Android 16, and you can enjoy its new features and with many improvements on place. This makes sure that your experience gets improved.
If you still didn’t get the update for your device, wait for a few days or a few weeks, then check for updates again. If you still see “Your software is up to date,” this means that the update didn’t reach your region yet.
Note that the update process may take 15 to 20 minutes, and this can vary from device to device. The download process may incur extra charges if you’re using the cellular network as the update size is around 5 GB, depending on the device, so we recommend downloading it through Wi-Fi. Never interrupt the update process in any way, or problems may occur. Make sure that your phone gets charged before you initiate the installation process.
