#Birds are funny creatures - I put the food out and the dopey headed pigeons (Crested Pigeons) came down for a brief time, then the #Galahs came down and shooed away the pigeons. More galahs came down and much eating was done until a #Currawong came down and everyone flew away.

Then the galahs came down en masse and the pigeons just got to look on.

That's how #galahs are made, they grown them on trees

Early in spring a couple of years ago, we had terrible allergies due to a huge plane tree growing in front of our home.
Last spring, hardly at all. But why?
Today, with temperatures around 0°C overnight and spring still weeks away, the plane tree is being swarmed by a flock of Galahs. They're picking-over the seed pods, presumably to get to the seeds, and scattering plane tree "snow" far and wide. The galahs look happy, and I'll be grateful if they prevent another bout of allergies this coming spring.

Some galahs just flew over - I love their sound. It was one of the many things I loved about Canberra, so many galahs (and all of the other birbs). For some reason their song instantly makes me think of Milawa on a late summer afternoon as the sun is setting….

Four #Galahs (pronounced “ga… laaa” in aussie)… 😋

They’re getting in a last feed before the sun sets I think.

If someone refers to a person as a #Galah, theyd be saying they’re not so bright.

But these foraging birds are pretty switched-on, in my book.

They read the play well, as in they know when to stay put or fly away in the face of danger…

You can see them look, even squint as they think… and assess the situation and weigh up the intent of the approaching doofus with the camera phone.

Thankfully these ones, whilst a little shy thought I was no threat. They kept picking through the freshly cut grass here, on this verge.

Historically if someone in Oz called another person a #Galah theyd be saying they’re not so bright.

But in reality, these birds are super switched-on… they know exactly what’s happening around them, make eye contact, assess threat levels to perfection and only deviate from exploring and foraging if they ‘need’ to, as a result.

Just a couple of silly #galahs and some barking dogs on this overcast #melbourne morning!

I really love these birds.

They have their critics (noisy, destructive et al).

But in this setting, two mates foraging on a nature strip, with little fear of me and other urban distractions, they’re magic to me!
